'90 964 locking system problem

I took my car in today to get a keyless entry system installed. It came to light that the passenger side lock is not operating correctly. When I unlock the driver side door, the passenger side door does not unlock like it should. However, when I unlock the passenger side door manually with the key, it unlocks both doors, like it should. Is this a problem with the solenoid actuator for the lock or a problem with the central locking system itself?

There's a rod that actuates the central locking mechanism. (I take it you can hear the mechanism within the pass door--but it's just not actuating the door lock, correct?). I've had that fail. So I could lock and unlock the door from the pass side key, but the central lock feature didn't work.

The rod is black plastic in the 964. Maybe 5 or 6 inches long. It's part of the linkage between the door lock actuator and the actual door lock. One end of the rod is a cup that seats on a metal ball. The plastic cup end breaks down and becomes disengaged. Replacement is the fix, part is/was only about $5, but it entails removing the interior door card to replace.

However, if you don't hear the door lock actuator firing within the door when you try the centeal locking feature, then perhaps the actuator is dead. I've had that happen, too.
