Removing headlight switch - 993
Hello, just discovered this forum. I've got a 993 C4S and its my pride and joy.
The light switch has been a bit erratic recently. The headlights are OK, but when switched on, the dashboard lights go off and on intermittently when going over bumps. Loose connection? How do you get the switch off the dash board for repair (sand all of the connectors) or replacement? Thanks in advance. |

The switch knob and switch holding collar come off from the front of the dash.
You then need to remove the switch from the rear of the lower dash. To get your hand up there you will 1st need to remove the warning control unit which is held in with 2-10mm plastic nuts. It comes out a lot easier than it looks with a good 1/4" drive metric sockets with the wobbly adapter extensions. Loosen the box, pull it down to the area where you can get at the plugs and disconnect the 2 plugs. The plugs have like a ratchet arm that disconnects them and remove the box. You will now be able to get your hand up to where the headlight switch lives. If you are on the larger size of body and or hands, you will have to remove the drivers seat 1st before any of this work.

Any details on how to remove the knob and is the 964 the same. Does it just pull off or is it attached some other way? Most of the information I have found is for earlier or later cars. I have a new switch on the way maybe able to figure it out once I have is in hand. I have looked here and Rennlist and have not found any clear instructions. Thanks for the replies.

Try some Deoxit Contact cleaner & lubricant (or any contact cleaner)
https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-D5S-6-DeoxIT-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00006LVEU/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1497559285&sr=8-9&keywords=crc+electronic+cleaner It worked on my headlight switch and did wonders for a balky ignition switch. Last edited by Raleigh993; 06-15-2017 at 12:44 PM.. Reason: edit |
