Getting from gauges to dash

In replacing the stereo in my 964 I discovered that the gauge section of a 964 is segregated from the lower portion of the dash, and the only way to get to the stereo is to drill a hole or fish through one of the existing grommets.

What did you do?

I installed an Alpine head unit with bluetooth and hands free, but in the process of routing the cable for the mic, I pulled the end off the cable (arg).

Another feature of the head unit is auto dimming of the display when you turn the lights on, which requires a connection a wire to anything that comes on with the headlights, but I haven't done that either.

I put the mic in the lower left corner of dash/windshield and ran wire under the binnacle (instrument pod) zip tied mic wire to existing wires, removing the end cover (one screw) makes this easier

I found a hole in the gauge panel, that was covered with upholstery, that was the perfect size for the mic.

read a thread here or rennlist , someone used the alarm buzzer in the dash and installed a mic inside of it..

frankly I dont use the phone feature all that much as I have a fabspeed dual sport exhaust and the top is usually off, I can hear the other side but they really cant hear me..

The lead for the ashtray light will be a good connection for the headhunt auto dimming.

MikeP that's a great idea! I got a replacement mic, but haven't taken the time to work on my own car
