996TT Radio LED Display Failure - Fixes?

My LED display on the original CR-220 radio unit just went out. When I turn the radio on, the entire screen has a faint glow, but no numbers showing. I did a quick search to see if it was possible to replace the center faceplate with LED display only, but I could only find used CR-220 radios for sale. Does anyone know if the faceplates are available separately or whether there is a quick fix for what I'm seeing?
