996 newbie questions
I also purchased my dreamcar 2 weeks ago. Ocean Blue, 2000 C2, 80K miles. Although I have a ton of questions, here are a few.
Yesterday, the check engine light came on. The local gas station read the codes for me, which came back P1325. Dealer stated the code is some camshaft sensor, bank 2. I went under the car and found what I thought were the correct harnesses on both sides of the engine (driver's side in front, passenger in rear), cleaned the contacts, put back together. The light went out after about 20 miles, but has come back. Search on the net has not revealed further details on code. Any ideas? My trunk light seems to work only occasionally. Where is the switch? Do the interior light switches have any impact on the light? Finally, want to change gear oil. Any prefered brands - or is stealer fluid the best? Any additives like syncroshift? I am thrilled with the car. It's powerful yet civil, sounds and handles great. thanks Stefan

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new car.
That is your camshaft position sensor on bank 2 (cylinders 4 - 6) You will need a Porsche tool to figure out exactly what it is doing. Unless the car is running rough, I wouldn't worry too much. The trunk light is controlled by the latch of the trunk itself. Try changing the bulb - they get erratic over time. Mobil-1 gear oil 75W90. No additives EVER! AFJ

I took the car to the stealer for diagnosis. They confirmed camshaft position sensor. However, they want to replace it with part no 996 105 053 58, which is the entire chain tensioner (not including the sensor). Dealer claims that the vario cam is not working, and the cam is not advancing on bank two. How can they determine this if the computer read out is relying on a faulty sensor signal? In any event, they want to drop the engine and charge me $2,700 for the pleasure. The light is now out (probably reset), and has not come back in the 15 mile trip from the dealer. The car runs fine, light on or off.
I still suspect a bad connection somewhere, and don't want to have the negine dropped if I can avoid it. Am I getting scammed here? Happy new year Stefan

The sensor was integral to the tensioner. I believe there is a TSB out saying that the whole tensioner should be replaced, and they superseded the part to a complete unit.
$2700 is about right for the job - I believe it can be done with the engine in the car, but in any case, the camshafts have to come out and the initial timing has to be reset. AFJ
