1999 996 Resale values
Why are 1999 996 resale vales so low compared to other models. I know water cooled is one issue, but what else. I live on the west coast and saw one for sale one owner, 50K miles and a clean carfax?

I think it is because of the 997 and how it has the traditional 911 headlights. I got a steal on my 99 996 last Thursday as I got it for $14k w/ 85k on the clock. Mileage is high, but everything seems to be in tip top shape, just dirty.

They are great cars. They are just not considered as good looking as the 993 or the 997 and they have the "dreaded" early 3.4 liter engine which had some issues with the Rear Main Seal (RMS) leaking and some early engines would grenade their cylinder walls unexpectedly. These issues have been long since taken care of (mostly, anyway) and people have a chance to get a great car at a pretty low price.

Supply and demand.
The supply of used 996s for sale is stacked up compared to other models with exception of used Boxsters which are also in great supply and can be had for a dance as well. A lot of these cars have come off leases and saturating the market. I've been watching ready to make the jump soon for a Boxster to turn into a track car. It's so much cheaper to buy one of these cars and put it on a diet rather than prep an older 911 with suspension and engine upgrades. $14k for a 996 with 85k. Dang that's a good deal! Actually your mileage isn't high. It's normal only 12k a year.

Ya but $14K!!! How could you go wrong. As I recall it was a tip and there was potential tranny problems but still a smokin deal. SOunds like the tranny was not an issue? I bet you can get a decent used tip from the breakers for 2 or 3K and be well ahead still.

As an aside, my 2000 averaged just under 7,000 miles a year, but since I picked it up five months ago, I've put on 7,000 miles already because it's my daily driver (and fun car). Personally, I think if a car is driven daily it'll actually stay in better shape over the long run (at least in a dry climate like the southwest).

14K is just sick..... You got super lucky.
This is a record to me, I've seen a Boxster for 8K and I thought that was a deal!
