Porsche Crest New Porsche Owner

Hey everybody!

I just got an '01 Carrera 2 Cabriolet. I have always wanted one and now I finally have it! I am so excited! I have found this forum to talk to you all about these AWESOME cars!

I will post a pic soon, got to wash it this weekend. It's been raining here in Tennessee.

Does anyone have any advice on easy to do upgrades, such as chips, exhaust, anything like that???

E

Hi E....congrats and welcome to the board! There are many upgrades you can do. What are some details about your car? Color combo? You can do a short shift upgrade, side marker lens upgrade....and tons of other stuff. I'll await your responses. I recently purchased my '02C4S....and have done a few things to it. Recently did a muffler modification too.....sounds sweeeeet.

Hey J,

It is Black with Black interior, and Black top 6sp. I do like the blackout taillights I have seen on some of the pics here. I have had other sportscars with short shifters and have loved it. It's a bit pricey on this site though $400+ but I guess i'd better get used to that. Some of the interior parts have wear on them and I have considered getting either the aluminum or carbon fiber dress up parts. What I will do first, I think, is get a better radio, stock is ok but I want one with XM and Nav. and a touch screen about $800-$1400. I miss my XM from my previous car, radio stations just don't do it for me any more. Normally, I would attempt to do some of these mods myself, but I'm afraid to with this car it's so much different from other cars, (oil change, exhaust, etc...)

Talk to you soon...

E

Nice looking car!
You shouldn't be afraid of doing the routine jobs such as oil changes on this car. It isn't really much different than any other car except the engine's at the other end. As long as you read around for information before you do anything, or ask if you don't find what you're looking for you will be OK. Once you start to work on it you will realise just how easy Porsche have made it to work on. Best of luck and enjoy the car.

The rear spoiler should have a manual switch on the driver side foot well.

Thanks Aerkuld,

I am enjoying the car very much. I have been contemplating about the routine maintenance it is true that it takes about 10 qts of oil??

Yes, 9.3 quarts according to my owners manual for a '02. Also please be aware that the oil filter uses a replaceable element and you re-use the housing. Don't go trying to get the old filter housing off without using the correct wrench, 74 / 76 14 according to the markings on mine.

David - as mookster said, spoiler button is in the drivers side footwell on the bottom of the fuse panel access cover.

Main thing about these cars: Does it have service (not carfax) history, all the books and wallet, two working keys, radio code and socket for the locking wheel nuts?

Super Dave...to get the wing up manually, look in footwell of the driver's side, and along the left side below where your knee would be, there should be a toggle switch. Push it up and the wing should open. Push down and hold down to get the wing back in place.

As far as your side markers....they are known as pumpkins when they are stock.

You can get some really neat stuff from eric at www.bumperplugs.com, including smoked side markers as well as the short shift kit. He has the best price I've seen at 199.

you can find lots of tech stuff as well at www.renntech.org

Oil change is a cinch on this car as well.
