GT3 front brake rotors
Anyone seen cracking front brake rotors (steel not ceramic) on their GT3 (07) with low miles? Mine had 3,600 miles when purchased with no engine abuse as downloaded from the ODB at the local dealer. Still the warranty claim was denied. Any ideas... should I replace with stock or go to larger Brembos? I'll probably only have one or two competitive events a year with the car.

Welcome,
small cracks are very common between the holes after a few more rigorous heat cycles from spirited driving. The concensus from even the track folks is that they are nothing to worry about as long as the cracks are not very deep and do not connect the holes. The beveled/counter-sunk casting hole pattern is meant to relieve some stress and help stop the cracks but they are just a fact of life using drilled rotors on a performance sports car. As long as the cracks do not connect the holes and there is no blueing/discoloration of the rotors, then they are probably good to go and have not been over-stressed. Are you in the PCA Santa Barbara Region? My Dad was president in 1992 and remembers someone by your name. I am going to school in San Luis Obispo at Cal Poly. Are you nearby? ![]()

That's me and the old tub!! The new to me GT 3 is a tremendous upgrade from the old school. Hope I'll keep my drivers license and the car for as long as I had the Speedster (35yrs).

Great old tub
Thanks, it was a huge pleasure to be chief steward of 80034 for 35 years. Now it's replacement is very much an iconic new Porsche to see me into the rest home later. Much later I hope. Still debating the front brake rotor issue.

I suggest doing a search in the 911 Technical Forum or the Autocross and Track Racing Forum for this topic. It has been covered numerous times before. Key terms like "Bill Verburg" and "drilled brake rotor cracks" should do it.
