Help me get my trunk open please

OK, I read the article and followed the directions but still no luck. 2002 986S parked it a month ago and now I can't get the trunk open to charge the battery. I connected a jump start battery between the red post on the fuse box and the door latch. I get a strange beeping noise but can't get the trunk to pop. Any ideas? Does this car come with the outside trunk release? Do I need to jump it with an extra 12 volt battery? I'm not sure nut I know somebody here can save me a tow bill. Thanks again,
Stuck in the garage.

I do not have the documentation anymore, but I remember information from the Rennlist 996 BBS about a hidden mechanical release in the passenger wheel well. memory being what it is, I think there was a pull mechanism to release the latch. It is supposed to be difficult to find and get to for obvious reasons. As the early 986 and 996 share most of the front end, I would expect this to be the case for the bonnet release too. Good luck.

I'm going to check today. Someone had posted checking for the cable at the end of the passenger fender where you open the door. I did find a pull loop but as I tugged it it came out like a hand grenade pin. No big effort. I read the article and it mentions prying up light to get to the cable. Passenger light? Do I need to loosen anything?
Thanks for your help so far,
Greg

P.S. I do love this car and the brand but this is a cluster f on the part of Porsche.

The thing you pull when the door is open is the emergency release for the fuel door.

I agree, having the battery under an electrically-controlled trunk lid is a butt-headed idea. I always wedge my trunk lid open with some newspaper if I park it for more than a week, because the overly complex alarm system seems to draw the battery down fast.

Do you have a front trunk release button on your key fob? With a jumper hooked up to the fuse box try pressing that button.

Trickle charger in the cigarette outlet for 2 hours. You will have enough power to open it.
