GT3 Console Delete DIY

After searching for an inexpensive used GT3 console delete, I decided to just make one. It isn't shaped exactly like the OEM piece, but it does the job and I was happy with how it turned out. This is what I did if anyone is interested.

I started out with a removed center console, and I began roughing in the shape of the GT3 console in cardboard. I looked at a few pictures online and then eyeballed it to make the closest representation I could.

I decided to make my console out of sheet metal, so I got a piece of 24 gauge metal from the Home Depot Motorsports aisle, and broke out my trusty shears and rivet gun and went to work.

At this point I checked the fit and did a little fine tuning.

Happy enough with the fit, I bought a roll of generic black interior carpet from Walmart, and used some Heavy Duty 3M Spray glue. I discovered that my wife's hair pins were just the right thickness to hold the carpet against the metal while the tight edges dried.

With the glue dry, I set about installing it in the car. I ended up using some exposed local auto parts store hardware and attaching the console at the top and bottom. Maybe next time I would hide the screws, but they don't bother me too much.

I coupled this with the small plastic cover in front of the shifter that I purchased from ECS Tuning, and for a little more than $18 and a few hours of my time I have a "GT3-styled" Center Console Delete.

Really nice job. I have the factory part and like yours, it really opens up the console and makes the car feel less confining.

Nice job, looks great.

In the last picture, is the mat a relatively permanent fixture and do you drive with it over the accelerator pedal like that. I would be worried it would somehow cause the pedal to get stuck. Just an observation.

Good observation, and thanks for pointing that out. The mat got shuffled around a lot when I was crawling under the dash to mount that console. I keep the mat in there for really wet days so I don't soak the carpets. When driving the mat is thin enough that it sits left of the accelerator pedal. No stuck gas pedal or unintended acceleration yet, haha.

I was cleaning out the car this weekend and snapped a couple of cell phone pics of the console. Still holding up fine, and I am still glad I made the DIY version.
