Looking for input on potential buy - 997.1 GT3
I found a really nicely setup car BUT it was in a small accident. The owner was driving around 35 mph, hit some standing water, the rear end came around contacted the center divider which spun it and caused the front end to it. The dealer replaced both bumpers, one front fender, one rear quarter panel, head light, tail light, one exhaust can and exhaust tips. They also provided a letter confirming the chassis measurement and rear chassis alignment.
The accident happened at the end of 2010. Since then he has replaced the suspension with RS/CUP components, KW 3-way adj shocks, springs, engine mounts and sharkwerks muffler, RS flywheel. He driven the car a lot and has tracked it a fair bit since then with no issues. Recent compression and leakdown are within 95% of factory numbers and no over revs. The interior is really clean, it has the lightweight one piece buckets, schroth belts, factory roll cage. It has RS rear wing, larger brake discs and has some OZ forged wheels with Pirelli Trofeo R's. He has the stock wheels as well with some newer street tires, can't remember what kind. Asking $72k. He is selling it because he has gotten more into racing and is doing more events in a cup car in the VLN series at the Nurburgring. He is also the Motorsport manager of the local Porsche Club. It seems to be a pretty good deal to me. And even though it had that accident it was a number of years ago with no ill effects. But I would appreciate any feedback before I pull the trigger. I will not be financing this so its a big purchase. Thanks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Get a PPI, and if it doesn't have a salvage title looks good to me.

I think you're in the price range of a no stories gt3. Imagine when you go to resell.....

Like others have said, if it's a branded/salvage title walk away.
Otherwise, I think it depends on what you want to do with the car. They have popped considerably since the 991 GT3 introduction (about $10k), so finding a no issues GT3 at $72k will be difficult. That said, the value in these things is the originality, so while the track improvements seem to be well thought out, they really hurt value. If you want a race-prepped GT3 to track this may be a deal for you, but if you want a street car to occasionally take to the track you'd be better off passing. |
