Red face spark plug socket dropped under valve cover! Help

I know this was a dumb mistake , but as i was replacing spark plug tubes and plugs i left the tube out while i was replacing plugs and the socket dropped. I'm able to move the socket around through the tube openings but it just is to big to get out. it must have fell at an angle i cant seem to duplicate. tried for 15hrs!!! i was going to try and dremmel it in half. i was looking at engine diagrams and it looks as if i left it there it may not interfere with valve springs or the cam until i can remove cover later by someone more filmiliar. Any advice out there.

Are the inlet and exhaust cams in that same cavity? If they are, there's a chance that the socket could foul the exhaust cam (as it's at the bottom where the socket is likely to be lying) I think you need to get it out immediately.

yes but it looks as if the cam follower cover would prevent it from cam, but i think im going to continue to fish it out. it could be catastrophic if i don't.

If you grind on anything inside it will create metal shavings that will wear internal engine parts. If you leave it in there it will break a cam. Get a magnetic pickup tool to get it out. Here's a pic of a head (without cams & followers & upside down)

thanks for the help. After another hr with every type of magnet i could find I got to the point I was going to dremmel off an angle of the socket and have a magnet catch the particles. I threaded some stainless aircraft tie wire through the socket and put a loop at one end to prevent it from pulling through the socket. as I pulled on it the wire through #4 hole to secure it, to my surprise it came right out. Thank god. i posted solution just in case someone else make such a stupid mistake like i did.

Glad it worked out but..

Why does everyone think a Dremel and a Multi tool are the answer to everything? I see guys doing jobs that a full size router would struggle at and attempt to do it with a Dremel.

Put the Dremel down.
