Guys,
How hard is it to install a new driver side window regulator in a 2000 996? I have looked online at the videos and it seems like something I can do at home. I have changed oil and replaced brakes (on the front) of the 996. With that type of mechanical experience can it be done by someone eager and willing to take his time? Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance. One last item, the part that I am hesitate about is the side air bag. Any advise how to deal with the side air bag? |

Do a search there are videos that show the procedure. Leave the airbag connected or pull the negative battery terminal and wait 5 minutes. Don't forget to remove the upper "Boxster" stop when you install the unit.

Mark the lower adjuster base with a sharpie and take note of the window positioning in the upmost position.....
I can do them in less than an hour start to finish......gravy

You have to be careful not to damage the door panel and what I did was
picked up a 5 piece Panel Removal Set. SIR Tools sells them. Part no. ST 9007. Harbor Freight for around $5.00. Like mentioned... get your sharpie out and mark the window where the existing parts are set holding the glass. Disable the air-bag per the DIY instructions at the Renntech.org website. You know it is the motor and not the regulator? |

This is a Boxster door. Look at the aqua plastic bit by the screw head. That is the stop placement for a Boxster. Just below it almost out of site is the hole where the stop needs to be for a 996 larger window. Typically a replacement regulator will have both in place.

There is also a link in the article that takes you to a, replacing your window regulator diy. Pelican Porsche Tech Article - Porsche 911 Carrera Door Panel Removal - Porsche 996 Carrera (1998-2005), Porsche 997 Carrera (2005-2008) I hope this helps...
