Black racecar nearly done

Finally! Paint is on. Only thing left to do is mount the bodywork, wet sand, buff, clutch cable, and alignment and she's ready to roll.

The fender shown here is brand new. The old one was mangled so I cut it off and welded on a new one.... All fiberglass is also new...

Yes yes, it's not a paint booth... But a little wet-sanding and you'll never know! It's a racecar afterall...

Is this a new car or a repaint of the existing one?

Chris, I think you accomplish more in one weekend of working on all of your cars than I do in the course of a whole year. Maybe I'm just spending too much time BSin and drinking beers... The car looks pretty darn good for a 'quickie' job...

Thanks guys,

This car belongs to my Porsche mentor. He decided to retire from his shop, MotoDelta, last year. He turned the number and Porsche customers over to me. He also retired from racing. This was his racecar.

THe prior year he lost the motor in the Kink at Road America. The loss of power caused him to go off track and scrape the wall. WHen he moved to FLA, he asked me to rebuild it and sell it for him.

I tore the motor down and rebuilt it (3.2L short stroke on 76 Carrera case), tore off and refreshed the suspension, and replaced the bent panels with fiberglass, and then some...

So in about 2-3 weeks this car is going up for sale/rent.

The motor is very special, 76-77 3.0L case, raceware hardware, ported, twin plug electromotive, titanium valve train, 46mm webers, racing exhaust, hot cams, etc.. Dynoed previously at 275 at the flywheel and redlines at 8200 RPM. 10:1 compression.

Koni adjustables with Smart racing bars, poly-bushings, Tilton dual adjustable master cylinder, Fuel cell, seat, cage, AUtometer memory tach, two sets of wheels, spares.

930 and Carrera calipers with turbo discs, etc.. etc...

One more pic...

Asking price?

Probably around $30k... Why? THe zero-hour motor alone is estimated at about $15k. Were you to have someone build this motor for you, it would cost you about twice that... So it alone is worth the asking price.

With all the extra goodies on it, and my setup and testing hours, I think it's more than fair a price. I need to unload it quickly because I need the garage space for some new projects (none of my own unfortunately).

Great car. I'm thinking about a track car and am trying to get a grasp of what a 'nice' car goes for. Thanks!

Chris,

Basic models with suspension improvements, cage, and minor goodies generally go for $20-$25. This one is similar, but has some more goodies. The extra juice is because of the motor.

John,

You know, I'm not a 100% sure but they appear to be about 40mm, but I could be off a few mm either way...

Jack,

Wellll... I think it's a toss-up. It's probably got 50 lbs more weight, but 30-35 more HP and more revs. It's got bigger brakes, but my chassis should be slightly stiffer. Well balanced and well setup the car feels like a million bucks and was very wasy to drive. The owner who was my instructor was consistently .75 seconds faster than me 2 years ago...
