Got to drive a 2005 GT3 at an Autocross today

Wow!! is all I can say. I never expected this car to be so balanced. I was amazed at how hanging out the rear on it was such a non-issue and you could pull it back in with ease.

I was at an Evolution driving school today and at the end of the day I sheepishly asked the owner of the GT3 if I could take it for a spin. He took my RX-7 around and did not like it. We had a little instructor / student competition and my RX-7 at the hand of my instructor was able to clock the fastedt time there. He beat me by 0.07 seconds!! We kept swapping back and forth and topping each other times. Then the tires overheated and I could not beat him.

Back to the GT3, I was truly amazed at the power (well, I expected that part) and how well it handled. We were talking and it seems a GT# took 2nd in Super Stock at the SoloII nationals last year. I would love to co-drive with this guy at the nationals next year. The owner of Evolution drove the car and just kept saying that she loved that car over and over, I think she was crying. I thanked the owner for ruining my life, I do not think I will ever drive a car that will amaze me like that again.

BTW - The owner of the car visits this board from time to time, he is so down to earth and just a regular guy. He was very excited when he heard I had a 3.6 swap SC. He is dying to drive it. He lost a '85? Carrera to Hurricane Wilma it was severely damaged when the door on his wharehouse caved in on top of it and proceeded to beat the car to death in the wind.

This is a day I will not forget, ever.

I've had the opportunity to drive a friend's GT3 at an AX as well. This particular GT3 has a tricked out AX-specific suspension - handling was razor sharp, but I felt the car was a little 'darty,' which suits the owner's driving style. While his setup is terrificfor AX, I would want to tweak the suspension for the track a bit, if it were mine.

Not sure what the difference is, but I've driven both a GT2 and GT3 and the GT2 totally blew me away. The GT3 was... nice.

I really suffered after driving the GT2... with lust.

That would'nt happen to be Peter L's car. Damn I would love to auto-x his GT-3 just once instead of my aged 72 911. Ya think it handles the same.

That was extremely generous of him! In November 2005 at Limerock a club member let his buddy take his GT3 out for a session. On his warm-up lap he rolled it about 3 times after the uphill. Thankfully he could afford to write a check for $120,000.00 that same day, which I am told he did..

I don't drive what I can't (or don't want to) pay for anymore, but thats me!

Being this was an Autocross I had no reservations driving his car. I had driven the course 20+ times and knew where I might get in trouble and was careful in those spots.

If this was a road course I would not have even asked nor would I accept an offer to drive a car that expensive.



kwikt 911 - Yes it was Pete's car. Have you seen his new toy yet? M3 Coupe with a supercharger? Jamals old car and it is VERY fast. I watched Pete come a long way as far as ability goes. I remember seeing him for the first time at an AX and it was one of his 1st events. He can really drive now he is getting to be very fast behind the wheel.

Pete is a great guy I am looking foward to letting him drive my 3.6 at a future event. I have not been Autocrossing very much instead doing a lot of DE's. I hopt to go out next month and let Pete take some runs in my car. He was really excited about it and wants to drive it bad. That seems weird coming from a GT3 owner and at the same time cool. He loves the air cooled cars a lot.
