Any high-speed track events at Pocono?

Are there ever any track time opportunities on the full 2.5 mile Tri-oval? All I’ve seen are road coarse events. Any other places near Washington DC?

Metro NY usually uses the whole tri-oval, as a last run of the day. This is when we use rent the IMSA course or double infield.

Only Instructors are allowed in this group, or very advanced drivers.

I can tell you driving the tri-oval isnt really to impressive..I think its boring

Well, I'm not an instructor and maybe only advanced in my own mind but I'd like to experiance an event where I can go faster on the track than on the drive to it.

atikovi,

Virginia International Raceway (VIR) and Summit Point (full course) are in (relatively) close proximity to the DC area. Neither one will allow you "flat out in 5th" for what seems like an eternity (as at Pocono), but both are FAST, and technically challenging tracks.

North New Jersey runs VIR each year, in November as I recall. Check their schedule. Summit will provide you with a list of PCA DE events from various regions, and other sanctioning bodies' "track day" style events.

I think Pocono is REALLY boring. Particularly when the short course is used.

You want to go fast? How about Watkins Glen? Watch out for the blue deer.

I'd like to go 150+ for a few minutes at a time. I recently bought a chipped (speed limiter removed) '92 Mercedes 500E and would like to see what it can do.

Only way you can do that safely and legally is to find a way to be invited to one of the automobile manufacturers test tracks or go to the salt flats.

1 minute at 150 mph= 2.5 miles, which exceeds the straightaway length of every track in the USA, even if you were at 150 at corner entry which is impossible. Not even Road America, which has some pretty long straights.

1st unlikely, 2nd too far. Guess I have to stay with my secluded stretch of Pennsylvania highway for an early Sunday morning drive. 15 miles of heaven with four 2 mile long straights and gentle 120 mph curves. Any idea what the ticket would be for 150 in PA?

Hopefully you'll get a weekend in jail with a big burly cellmate.

Aah, nothing like (effectively) waving a great big sign saying "HEY, I WILL BE BREAKING THE LAW AT THIS TIME AND PLACE, PLEASE COME ARREST ME!"

You do realize that all sorts of people, sometimes including local law enforcement, read these forums don't you?

I would think any officer who is on this forum would be sympathetic and let me off with a warning??? Just dreaming? You mean you can get arrested for speeding??? A ticket sure, but arrest? Maybe I've been watching too many episodes of Cops but they let off a lot more serious offenses like driving with a suspended license or marijuana possession with just a ticket.

High speed straight driving is about as much fun as bumper to bumper traffic as far as I am concerned. When I was young and dumb at 16 I oversteered though a 10ft gap between two semis doing 135mph trying to top out my car when I was cut off by another car. To this day it stands the stupidest thing ive ever done, well besides staying with that bit.ch of a girlfriend for 5 years.

(haha the latter is in good humor!)

EDIT:BTW the car was my sweet Mazda 626.

For my dollar one of the best tracks for staightaway speed and also a bit technically challenging is Summit point. The exit speed out of the last turn onto the front straight should be somewhere between 90-110mph. I'm sure someone has dome track video of Summit. Forget the 150 mph for 2 minutes. It's boring anyway
