Pueblo, CO Sept 15,16

So we're throwing a club race and attendance is way lighter than usual. I don't think we did anything that bad last year so I don't understand what's going on.

I'd like to personally invite everyone to the "First Ever Anywhere" PCA club race in beautiful Pueblo, Colorado. It seems we're a bit light on Texans and Grand Junction folks.

If you have interest in coming, please get a hold of me and I'll get you all signed up.

We're also running a DE all weekend so DE drivers are welcomed and encouraged to join the fun, too.

Jess Wurmbrand

Give me a call if I can talk you into coming or you need more info!

C'mon guys. This may be your LAST CHANCE to club race at Pueblo. If the new track comes together next year, the race may be held there instead.

To get you motivated, here's a 30 second video of three of us at the NASA race going off track in somebody's oil slick (I won't mention any names)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPpLY7SXaQ4

I'll be taking a better line through corner 1 next time. I think I can get another second or so out of that track at the PCA race.

Only 8 days to go before the test and tune!

I planned to be there but somthing came up and I had to cancel.

However I am planning to attend the PCA race at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah at the end of the month. They are running the full 4.5 mile track it should be a fun event.

Justin,

As much as we consider the Intermountain guys and girl to be family,
I think that Miller is one of our biggest obstacles in attendance this year!

Jess,
You maybe right about Miller causing the problem, I really hope more cars enter the Pueblo race this week, I always have a good time at Pueblo and I am shure it will be a great weekend.

Like I said, I had registered earlier and then I had something come up and I have to travel out of state and had to cancel my registration. I will be at the PCA race next year whether at the new track or Pueblo.

I don't know if this will sway anyone, but it looks like we've got the time to add an enduro to the weekend.

It will be a FREE added bonus to everyone who is racing.

It was a great event! I had some of the best on-track racing experience ever, but off track it was a different story.

The heavy hand of the PCA National Scrutineers rained on my parade. As such they decided to come down hard on the F class Colorado cars, specifically the updated earlier cars. My '74 911S was updated to euro SC (81-83 spec) was found non compliant because it did not have a heater blower, a wrong fifth gear (USA SC tranny rather than euro) and my SC brake booster was non functional. None of these "violations" are performance enhancing. It did not matter that I had the right engine, right flares added, wheel sizes and what I thought was the right transmission (>$12K with my labor free). I am working man not some trust fund racer, this was real money to me.
The end result of this heavy handed, chickensh** is that I am now in some GT class for PCA racing. NOT! I just canceled my Miller registration and seriously considering quitting PCA racing all together. This is coming from a long time PCA member and driving instructor but I only have two years racing and certainly not a cheater. I just wanted to race in a class that was actually competitive. Going to great expense and distance to a PCA club race and the only having one other racer in your class is an utter waste of time. I hold H class records for 3 of the 5 tracks I raced last year, because NOBODY races H anymore. Club racing should be inclusive not exclusive. There is no money involved, no fame, some glory and certainly I will never be as fast as hotshoe Jess. I was well off the pace of the pole sitters at Pueblo this past weekend. I guess my alternative is to race with NASA and dodge kamikaze Miatas. At least NASA is concerned with important matters HP/Weight ratios from dynos/scales and not heater blowers and trunk carpet. YMMV

Bill,
That does sound like they where nit picking about some small BS violations. I understand why you are ticked, I would be to.
The violations you listed are fairly cheap and easy to fix except the transmission. Perhaps you could get a waiver for the trans and fix the other items for next season.

I mainly race with SCCA in the GT class and they have been making major changes and constantly threaten to make more. I am also very aggravated over the whole thing but in the end it comes down to the fact that I love to race and so far SCCA has offered the best schedule for me so I have stuck with them and made the changes to stay current. I am however seriously looking at running with NASA for next season.

I am registered for the Miller PCA race at the end of the month which will be my first official PCA race and I hope I don't run into any simialr issues.

I would have been there at Pueblo but I had a once in a life time chance to sit out at one of the pylons for the RENO Air Race National Championship and it was amazing. These guys are flying 200-400 ft off the deck right above you at up to 500MPH, Just an incredible experience. (unfortunately there where 5 plane crashes and 3 deaths)

Hey Justin

The races went pretty well overall. We had more track time than anyone had hoped for. With only one race group and one DE group, it was on for half an hour and off for half an hour. Pretty hectic but I think everyone had fun.

I don't think a single 13/13 was handed out which is unusual and great.

It was fun to be on the track with the fast cars in my slow F class car. Just had to pay attention to the mirrors.

The wreck mentioned above was in a DE group and it did look pretty bad but I understand that the driver was fine, not so much the car.

The results should be on MyLaps soon.

See you in Miller,

Jess

Jess there was one 13/13 handed out to a 911 driver that inadvertently rear ended me on Saturday during the warmup lap before the green on a practice session. There was an accordian lockup of brakes of racers between turns 4 &5, and this poor racer did not see it in time. My rear bumper (still OEM steel bumper--imagine that!) and tow hook made a mess of his front FG glass bumper. Unfortunately my video was not working or the red 944T ahead us probably could have been construed to have been at fault instead. So it goes.

I didn't know about that.

Did you come in? Did the other driver involved?

See you at Miller, Mr. GT3!

Of course I came in after the shunt, I play the club rules and so did the other guy. You will not see me at Miller as I already canceled my entry. My Nevada based, mechanic father-in-law (who really enjoyed being my pit crew last year) is quite disappointed too. My 911 certainly is not a GT3 car. I wanted to race with faster cars (see my post above) but not GT3 fast. It is not even a good F car, based on this past weekend in Pueblo. However, with my Weissach's engine swapped into it, it sure as heck will be a good G car ---with a functional vaccum booster of course. Maybe in time for Hallet but not Miller. YMMV

talk about nit picking and rule problems.
how is someone in front that has no contact at fault for people in the rear that do have contact.

I know I wasn't there, but I don't see how someone in front causes a wreck in back...

sorry the attendance was poor
sorry the rules were cumbersome
Luckily I went to hastings and we had 150 cars turn out before they cut off the registrations for the vintage race!

I am not making this stuff up. This article was written by the PCA Chief Steward. I am not nitpicking, the fella that hit me, pointed this out to me and was hoping for my video to prove his case. I tried to get the guy off the 13 and hold him no malice.

Kathy once spun in the "mini-carousel" at Heartland. Guy right on her tail dodged off track and hit a barrier and broke his oil cooler. She got the 13. Her reaction can't be printed in this family oriented newspaper.

Over time we have come to realize the rationale for rules which penalize the person who lost control of their car (due overcooking a corner or other driver caused matters as opposed to oil or mechanical failure). In fact, I benefitted by it last year. When racing you can't possibly stay back far enough behind the guy ahead to avoid trouble if someone slows abruptly in a place where that is not normally done. Even with amazing 1/2 second reactions. Though on a warm-up lap under yellow one would hope for a bit more margin. As Bill allowed himself.

Stock bumpers are good good things to keep. Especially since all the '74s - 89s are aluminum.

Bill - I'll give you a heater blower. I got dinged on that a while back. Unlike the brakes, they don't have to work. Adding a Euro 5th isn't hard (compared with other gears) if you have the tranny out. Call me and I'll come help you do it. Euro SCs ran a 28:22 5th, as did US 3.2 Carreras from '84-86, so a used gear set ought to be available. And, when you get ready to hook up your power brakes, I'll show you how to attach the wiring so the brake lights will work. I also hooked up the brake failure warning light, but don't know just how to test it to see if it works.

Walt
