hmmmm... much like my paint job, it is better at 20ft than close up :D I dunno about that dragon. I could always up the ante with a more modern looking dragon if I find one online... after all this new "theme" concept is just that, a theme v. exact replication.
Time to google... probably get a bunch of hits for the movie Red Dragon. |
I think it would clean up pretty easily with a little bit of photoshop tweaking. Add some teeth, meaner eyes, etc.
The iron cross in white behind the cockpit is probably the best for its ease of cutting into a sticker and a simple, purposeful look. |
what size do you want those stickers to be? I talked to my friend Scott tonight and I will email the designs over but needed to know what size you wanted them to be...
I am going to have him quote out a large hood decal (he can print up to 48" IIRC on 50" or 52" stock) and hopefully he can work with the tiny red dragon I found and so forth. I also started freakin' out last night about painting the car like a Nazi aircraft, but I talked to my other friend's dad today who was shot down over France (bomber crew on a B17), spent a few weeks in the French Underground trying to escape occupied France, was caught on his way to an airplane to get out by Nazi soldiers, was in front of a firing squad and spared at the last minute for interrogation (!), and ended up in a concentration camp for over a year, and he was okay with the black cross since it simply represents Germany and not the Nazis like a swastika. He was actually interviewed on a History Channel show about 10 yrs ago now about his experience. In fact, he actually thought it would be a pretty cool looking car, so I am feeling better again :) He has nothing against Germany like some other Vets do, only the Nazis so the black cross is all good and he thinks the FW190s were pretty neat planes. I just needed his okay - if you think about it, the freedom to be able to paint a race car any way you want including other country symbols is provided by the service of people like him. Just wanted to be respectful with my rights ;) |
What I think is essentially the choice of scheme... #1 with new and improved advanced whitening and tartar control :D
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208380880.jpg Then I will put the 190 in the center of the door ghosted cross in white as well. |
Cool:D
Do you think the hood cross should be a little smaller to have a bit of green between the cross and the black? JMO As for the German Adler flag stickers, can your friend do a few of the top flag with a width of about 5 inches? I was thinking of a 3x5 but I do not know the aspect ratio of the design. A lot of people confuse Nazi with German in the politically uncorrect world. I have been know to succumb to stereotypical thinking myself, though nothing with malice. The Iron Cross (EisenKreuz) has been a symbol of German pride, honor, courage, and strength for many years, long before the Nazis. I believe it goes back to the Holy Roman Empire days, certainly to the Frankfurt Assembly, Bismarck, and the Weimar Democratic Republic. The EisenKreuz is a badge of honor with no bad intentions towards others. |

I like the semi flat black with the cross.
You know what would be really awesome? take the below paint scheme only make the blue flat black and the arrow gloss white. 908/3 homage.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208417478.jpg |

Got my carbon fiber louvers in UPS today to put on the hood and roof - those are going to make laying a sticker on the hood a PITA for sure - they are huge. Necessary tho' cuz I need to pull heat out of the front and definitely out of the cockpit and want to do that in an aerodynamic way of course. http://www.hrpworld.com/client_image...3876_hdr_2.jpg |
I meant 5 inches wide by 3 or whatever inches high for the flag.
The louvres are cool. Can you just put them on the sides of the cross, in the flat green where there will be no vynl sticker? Is there a flat clear coat that you could put on the carbon fiber? Maybe just light sanding. Seeing the carbon fiber would be cool and go with the black as long as it was not shiny. What are your thoughts about the red dragon? Just curious |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208498196.jpg but it may be way too small to blow up. Every other red dragon I found was very Asian which obviously doesn't match the theme, but this one works for me and has a cool twist to it. But I will use it as nose art v. on the rear fender. I am just going to paint undercoating on the bottom 6"-8" of the car and then go back over it with semi-flat black for rock protection. |
#1 hands down for me, love that color scheme!
|
painted some of the old hood with camo green
both colors are definitely dark together, but I think it will look good. Especially when I get my perfect hood out of the basement and hack it up for the louvers and cut the bracing out to use on the car
I never painted this hood as I intended to replace it from day one. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208563018.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208563042.jpg Louvers set in place on the hood and roof. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208563091.jpg Lastly, put a new steering wheel with quick disconnect in finally and thin sheet alum diamond plate floorboard. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208563206.jpg |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209185053.jpg so those happen to sorta match the dragon with snake-like body of the nose art and have some "flair" :D especially the top one. BTW, he didn't see the pic of the plane, just said he had some red dragons he could send me for review. I am going to talk to him this weekend and get an update of what he is thinking in terms of prices/lead time and ask about your flag. You mentioned wanting a couple of them, but what is a couple? 2,3,5 or ?? Just so I have an idea to give him of what he would be quoting on. With the new hood the big BC on the hood may be questionable. Maybe I will just paint it on over the louvers (shot from drag strip last Sunday with my buddy and his big turbo Volvo wagon) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209186084.jpg |
Yeah, It looks like painting the Iron cross on might be easier. Just mask the design over the louvres with some tape and spray away. The tape can be repostioned easier than the sticker.
I was thinking like 5 stickers as long as the price is not too high per sticker. Is that too small a batch for your buddy? I understand that price per sticker will increase in smaller batches. IMHO, I kind of like the bottom dragon best. It seems a little more streamlined and not so ricer with the Asian moustache like the top ones. I think it could blend into a dividing stripe a little more easily. Thanks, have fun with the car and graphics. Remember that the designs can change pretty easily so go crazy. |

thanks for that pic, still haven't stickered the car up yet but did manage to get it painted last fall. I realize I never put a shot of the paint job here.

Lookin good
