Is a 16 foot enclosed car hauler too short?

I have been shopping around for an enclosed car hauler for my 71 911T track car.
I have mostly been looking at 18 and 20 foot enclosed trailers.

I happened on a very nice used (2 years old) 16X8.5 trailer a a great price ($4000)

Is this trailer too small? I am thinking about maximizing the overhead space as much as possible with shelving.

Your comments or experience would be appreciated

Thanks
Andy

A 16' is pretty short.

1. Will you ever bring a roll-on toolbox?
2. What about a pit-bike?
3. Extra supplies?

I have a 24' that seems too small some days. Granted we take the whole shop in it, but with a 16' you cannot keep anything on the floor for the most part. I'd think that a 18' would be a minimum. Hanging overhead cabinets are nice, but there's a limit to the weight and amount of stuff you can put in them.

I bought a NEW 24' for $4800 and finished the inside myself.

Thanks Chris.
I finally found one of your old trailer threads. Based on that I will definitely be going with nothing shorter than 20 feet. Ideally it will be a 24 foot if I can find a deal.
They are pretty expensive up here in Canada. 20 foot $7500+taxes , 24foot $8500+taxes.
Thanks
Andy

I'm lucky in that 2 or 3 big trailer mfg. are right in northern Indiana, about 2 hours from me... I got a 24' beavertail with vents, lights, and HD axles fro that price. Painted the walls and floor, installed cabinets, etc.. and was in it for less than $5500. Figure you'll need around 15' for the car (leaving some room at the back and front to set tongue weight.

I just wouldn't want to put a bunch of tools above my car even in the sturdiest of cabinets you know? I'd figure 15-16' for the car to be safe, then every foot after that is storage.

Who sells a new 24 ft. enclosed trailer for $4800? How much does it weigh?

I have a 20' Haulmark that we bought new at the Arizona factory for under $5K. I think it's just right. I don't bring a ton of stuff but I fit what I need with out any cabinets. Everything is in large storage bins that I roll in with a dolly. You've also got to consider what size you feel comfortable with pulling into gas stations and around in city traffic.

The nice thing about a 20 or 24 foot trailer is that you can move the car around in the trailer to get the best balance. Remember that tongue weight is the key to effortless towing. Moving the car forward, or backwards in the trailer can make a huge difference.

This is one of the most overlooked aspects when purchasing a trailer for a 911. I have a sixteen foot trailer and I can't get enough weight on the tongue. My only option is to back the car on the trailer.

20Ft enclosed worked great for me. Even had room for a work bench, tool box, compressor overhead tire rack.. It was 24ft tongue to tail, 20 ft enclosed box.
