setting up an Auto-X event

Hey guys

I'm a member of Simon Fraser Auto Sports club (SFASC)... we are kinda new, and somewhat small.

however we are sick of missing out on the UBC events because of full registration, as well as having to pay the non-member fees...

so we are thinking about arranging our own events, going to start small.

what insurance do we need (i imagine third party is a must, can anyone be a little more specific)?

how do you approach someone about renting a open parking lot (or old airfield, or...)?

what waivers do we need to have participants sign?

and finally, how much $ is it going to take?

i really appreciate your help

We are located in Vancouver, BC (west coast of Canada), a bunch of us have done at least some auto-X, some a few track-days, one or two experienced drifters...

Cheers
N

Try the SCCA website, they have something called a "Site Acquisition" brochure you can buy or download. Trying to find a site isn't a new problem so they made this brochure to help you search, ask the right questions and represent yourself. Good luck!

What is UBC? Do you have a local PCA region?

The principle costs associated with an autocross are:

1) timing gear (once);
2) insurance (per event, usually);
3) cones (once plus maintenance);
4) site fee (varies);
5) a heap of patience;
6) an IV drip of dedication;
...
99) drywall

Running your own event(s) won't be cheaper than just finding a club that already runs especially in a larger city like Vancouver (or Bellingham, Abbotsford, etc.).

This looks like a pretty good (northerly) round up:

Saskatoon! Go fer it!

If you go south, you'll find the Seattle folks all run at Bremerton Raceways

Plus SCCA and PNW and Olympic PCA Regions. They all run track days, schools and other high speed things at Bremerton Raceways, Pacific Raceway and (if you dig deeper) Portland International Raceway.
