brake pad suggestions for street/track 911SC?
Nubie to autocross, track/DE. Ready to outfit my 911SC project with brake pads. Need to drive to the track/course, but would like excellent, non-fading braking power on the course. Any suggestions?

I have always had good luck with Performance Friction pads on my 87 Carrera.
Note: I have brake cooling ducts installed on the car as well. |

PFC97 here too. Great pad for the track, and I drove to and from the track on them for a year, no issues.

I've tried a lot, and when I tried Hawk Blues, I was hooked... awesome pads!

early on doing AX & lower level DE days a pad that I really liked for that & street use was the ferodo 2500. a great pad for both applications as they lasted, were reasonable cost wise, & did not dust the wheels up too much. as my car pretty much became track exclusive they still performed well but would only last 3 or 4 track days.
from there i tried the porterfields R4 for more track dedicated duty and hated them at 1st. took a while for them to bed after the ferodos. they did not like the remains of the 2500's on the rotors and it took some time to get them to work right. i also noticed that they would heat up much more causing the MC to puke a bunch of fluid that i would continue to top off only to have it happen again next time out. i finally stopped adding fluid as it seemed to level out about a 1/2" down from full every time. finally i just let it ride low and have not had any issues since. they never heated to the point where i lost brakes, just puke fluid. There was a thread earlier this week on MC puke. swore i would never use them again, but having now got a second set ![]() I'd consider the 2500's for your declared duty. t |

I bought the PFC97 pads and had no fade problems. Fade was a concern of mine, since I ended up going 120mph down the back straight of mid-ohio into the 40 mph right turn at the end. Don't forget to put new brake fluid in bleed everything properly. I spent a few days testing my threshold braking / bedding the pads and had to re-bleed once or twice because one front tire would lock up before the other consistently. Super Blue Dot 4 fluid also helps protect against brake fade.
They are a little squeaky, though, around town. Plan on putting your street pads back in after events. I just put up with the squeaks, but hate that I am using up my expensive pads while I am driving on the street.

What the ?

Have Portefield R4 now and really like them, have run Ferodo's happy with them too. Porters did require a bit more time to warm. Both locked the brakes when needed.

I use the Porterfield R4S for street/track duty. Never heard a squeak from them, and never had fade with SRF fluid. 2.5yrs worth of tracking. I drag the brakes for half a lap on the out-lap and they're good to go.

Hmmm,
I have used R4S on a stock braked carrera and thought they were great. Currently I have R4 on Brembo GTP's on my 911 track car. That car is overbraked, weighs 2200lbs, and I am not that impressed this time. I find they lack "feel". On my Cayman S I recently switched to Pagid Blues. The stop great and have great cold friction, but they throw a ton of dust, even more than factory pads which I did not think possible, and they are intermintenly noisey.... Going to put Pagid yellows in the 911 race car and likely keep the Pagid Blues in the dual duty Cayman S. Cheers

Start with Ferodo 2500's. They are cheap and work very well without street noise. Frankly they are better than post pads at twice the price.
