Setting up Motec - Cost

What is a fair cost for a shop to set up and instal motec on a 3.6 engine?

Thanks for your input

Could use some more information than that. A water cooled? Air-cooled? vario-ram? vario-cam? Using factory wiring? using factory dash?

Are you paying for a full wiring harness and programming and dyno time? Are you providing the ECU? Do you want full data logging or just engine management?

The cost could range from $2k-$20k depending on the specifics.

Motec

Hi, Eric:

Thank-you for your feedback. Yes, it's for an aircooled 3.6 non-vario in a torsion bar carrera, using factory dash etc wiring , only engine mgmt.

Yes paying 6k for the ecu Motec M-84 and harness. Erick, I want your M-800

I'm guessing about 2k to install and setup (programming and dyno time), does that sound about right.

Yeah, the harness and Motec unit are the most expensive portions.
Laying the wiring in the car and doing some tuning is just the finishing steps so that sounds about right.

Toooo much!! Overkill in my opinion

A harness is a harness and will be expensive for any standalone if done right.

It's a comment that returns often but is very true, chose your Tuner and use the ECU he is comfortable with. You don't need much for an N/A engine, a Megaskirt P-N-P would do just fine and no need for wiring. If you plan to boost someday, go for a LinkG4, ViPec V88 (same manufacturing), Autronic SM4. All of these are X-Motec employes gone rogue, great stuff and 1/5 the price!
