Race classes - is there a nice overview somewhere
I admit I havent done spent a ton of time looking for this, but I would like to know if anyone has a good resource for a basic comparison of classes across sanctioning bodies.
I am curious about 3 different MODEL, 944, 911 and miata, and the 3 (or more) race organizations (CLUBS) active in the north east (SCCA, PCA, NASA). Each has a generic formual for each of their CLASSES What I am looking to make is a grid that answers the basic newbie questions: I would be happy to compile to a spreadsheet if enough feedback came in. So for 944, 911 (sc upto 993) and miata ...................................|SCCA |SCCA |PCA |PCA |NASA |NASA | ...................................|CLASS 1 |CLASS 2 |CLASS1 |CLASS 2 |CLASS1 |CLASS 2| Stock + what mods are required (cage, fire sys...) -----|...............|...............|.............|... ............|..............|............. years/variants ----|................|..............|.............|... ............|..............|............. (s2,turbo etc) engine size/ mods?--|.................|..............|.............|.. .............|..............|............. HP / lb rules-----------|.................|..............|.............|.. .............|..............|............. Other major rules (stock Wheels,brakes)-|.............|..............|.............|...... .........|..............|............. avg cost of midpack or better car----------|.................|..............|.............|.. .............|..............|............. So on the left are the important variables. at the top are the columns for CLub and class. its supposed to be a grid, but too tired to fool with the example above. Any one able to contibute a couple columns of data for comparo? any suggests for other important varialble that make up the rows? Thanks |

It is not clear exactly what info you want to fill in your grid.
For instance, taking just SCCA and your Miata as examples, the Miata COULD POTENTIALLY run in virtually every SCCA class except AS and the formula car classes, depending upon motor changes, chassis modifications, suspension changes, and level of prep. Your PCA and 911 model combination is slightly more limited, and the possibilities are clearly defined in the GCR. Maybe easiest of all is the PCA / Miata grid, which is already complete on the spreadsheet you are about to start. Ed |
