What cheap car to race in SoCal?

I am interested in 944 racing in SoCal and the videos I see show a pretty small field. If I buy a 944 Spec is it possible to race it in other classes during the weekend? If so what would that be? A few years ago I raced a SM in NorCal with 60 plus cars in the field. I'm used to a lot of cars around and lots of wheel to wheel. Any advice for me? Seems like after the start most 944 races turn into single file lines.
Thanks in advance. I'm looking forward to racing something with more room in the cockpit than a Spec Miata.
Rick

Have you thought about SpecE30? A lot like SM, but a roomier car. At least in Nor Cal, there are large fields (much larger than Spec944)

Yes I have. Like sitting in a Barco Lounger after SM. Trouble is here in SoCal fields are tiny like SM. I thought Socal would have a much bigger race crowd than Norcal. Not the case.

I think Spec 944 is busiest within NASA in SoCal. POC and PCA don't field many 944 cars around here. Spec Box usually has a pretty good field with both POC and PCA. There is now a PCA West Coast series that hits many of the major tracks.

class

Don't know if you run it there but we have SCCA ITS or ITR classes that the 944 runs in. I am located in Florida and we run in the Southeast area. You can run at least once a month. Fields are usually 40 + cars. Daytona usaually about 70 cars. We rent seat time in our 944 for the endurance races if you like driving long stints

Thanks Jam
I'm going to go over to the track in a couple of weeks and check out ITS and ITR. I think that will be the ticket. Thinking of a part time house around Stewart FL this coming year. What tracks are in that region doing club racing? I'm unfamiliar with tracks back there.
