Almost time for new AX tires and...

The time for new tires is nigh, and I face a small conundrum; hoping the combined wisdom here will help make things a bit clearer!

I am currently running Hankook z214 C71 tires: 225/50/16 in front, and 245/45/16 in the back. I've liked these well enough, though they don't seem quite as quick as my old A6s, they last a long time, cost much less, and aren't too far off in pace.

And, if I could pick up new ones I probably would... but the rear sizes seem to be hard to find at the moment (Hankook's web site still lists them as an available size, but Tire Rack have none and have said they cannot order them, and places that are listing them are charging more than I would expect). So, question one, anyone know anything on this front? Seems like they might be due for a c72 compound, but haven't seen anything (and even if that were the case, I doubt my size would be one of the first released).

So that has me looking again at Hoosiers. I've heard the A7s are faster (and faster wearing), but the main concern is their larger size. With the current height of my car, I worry how the 225s will fit in front. Is anyone using these on a 3.2L Carrera (or SC or similar)?

V710s are always a standby, though if I recall correctly, the two sizes I use are the two different form factors they make: has anyone here used a combination of the square shoulder and round shoulder and how did that work?

What about the BFG AX offering? I spent a day with the regular R1 tires on a friend's car a couple years ago and found them to have a very vague feeling until they got heat into them (which might never happen at an AX). Is the R1S better?

Thanks for any feedback you can offer!

I have been using used SM6s ...$50 ea. I have considered other options like Bridgestone or BFG but have not bought. A tire that is good in wet or dry would be better than changing tires at the site. Some of the new tires were very good in the Sportscar Mag tire test...Grassroots Motorsports also had some tests last year.

Sorry I don't want to hijack, but I was also curious what all around performance tires people are running these days. Ones I can leave on my street rims and if im too lazy to change rims I can take them to the track and still have some fun lapping. My car came with Michelin Pilots, but they are 17 years old! I want to get so decent all around tires. Any recommendations on threads covering this, I did a search but didn't find much...

The Michelin Pilot Super Sport (MPSS) is a fabulous performance street tire. My current fave.

Just to catch up:
The A7 is king.
The R1s isn't terribly behind, but in my experience needed a fair amount of heat to get going. At cold events your first run or even two may be throw aways.
No info on the Kooks, sorry.
SM6 is supposedly the same compound as the r6, so not ideal for AX.

In 200tw the RE71R and Rival-S that just came out are blowing the old tires out of the water. Kinda close is the Z2 Star Spec, a little further back last year's king the RS3 Version 2. Afaik nobody has quality test time on the brand new V720 yet, but hopes aren't to high based on how cheap they are.

I selected the Bridgestone for my AX car after years of Dunlop, I have to run 200tw.

Thanks for the info but they don't seem to make those wider than 245 for a 17" wheel :/.

Look at the latest addition of Sports Car mag (SCCA) and see their tire test...extensive comparison of 4 different tire brands. Its is a SOLO II test course but it does show G loads and timed movement through a closed circuit...I think the BFGs looked good
