1960 Porsche 356, w/ SC engine, Feeler. $28.5k obo, SE NC
Contemplating selling my beloved 1960 Porsche 356 to free up some cash for other endeavors. She's my favorite car I've ever owned and has been driven the hell out of with countless ensuing smiles the short time I've owned her. I will copy the original ebay ad from when I purchased the car this Spring. Nothing has changed about her condition or otherwise other than the following items; wheels refinished and powder coated black w/ new rubber...kinda giving her a patina outlaw look, new sway bar bushings, new clutch cable, removed bumpers and hubcaps which will be included with the sale, and added headlight screens. The pics in the ebay ad are of how the car looked upon my purchase and the pics posted to the this thread are how she currently looks.
The body is a bit rough with half hearted bondo and bondo removal, primer here and there, but minimal rust. The chassis is 100% solid NO RUST, and she is mechanically 100% as well. Every auxiliary item; lights, switches, do-dads, on the car works right down to the original radio, even though it struggles to pick up a signal. Interior is almost 100% as well, save for the tears in the driver seat. All the pics should tell the story and answer any questions. Looking to get $28,500 obo. I will not take a penny less than $25k....again I will not take a penny less than $25k....for the third and final time do not waste our time with any offers less than $25k. I bought the car within 24 hours of it being listed on ebay and the seller had offers coming in for days after my purchase. Also have a friend that has interest at $25k that would keep it somewhat within the 'family'. Not really interested in any trades unless you got a BMW 2002, or euro-spec BMW E21 323i, or similar fun, cheap, old bimmer, with substantial cash coming my way.....again substantial cash. Here is the original ad. Again nothing has changed as to the condition and or working order of the car other than the items and improvements listed above... Up for sale is my 1960 Porsche 356 B Coupe "Driver", which runs and drives just great, 1965 SC engine is very strong, clutch and transmission are very smooth, transmission built by Vic Skirmants, engine built locally by a "Porsche engine man", this car just runs and drives like a scalded rabbit! Mechanically very strong, all lights work, turn signals, headlights, brake lights, parking lights, horn, gauge lights, brakes stops on a dime, emergency brake holds on a hill! The car retains its original 6 volt system and the charging system work perfectly. The engine starts even on cold mornings with 2 presses of the accelerator pedal, a turn of the key and it then roars to life!! The engine is number 813798. It is a 1965 SC engine. Mechanically this car has been very well maintained over the years by the owner/mechanic. He used this car as his daily driver for many years driving from Raleigh to Research Triangle Park (about 20 miles one way) until his retirement. After he retired he continued to maintain the car and I had seen it in Raleigh being driven on occasion. I purchased the car because I wanted a 356 I could jump in and drive. I am using the car as my daily driver as well. It is hard to find one where everything works and that you can drive care free. Even the heater tubes work and as you go down the road you can feel warm air entering the cabin via the side heater vents in the car. The car was originally silver and needs to be repainted. The body and floors are very solid. I have posted over 80 pictures as a link. You will find pictures of the longitudinals and the floors. All are very solid. There was a minor repair on the passenger side longitudinal some years back. It is solid but you can see the repair. The battery box has also been repaired with metal welded in. While not beautiful it is solid. All glass is in very good condition with no cracks. Door windows go up and down with ease, vent windows work perfectly and rear quarter windows open and close and latch just like they came from the factory. The car retains its original red interior with red german weave carpet and red door panels which is in very good condition. Driver side seat is original and shows some wear, but is original. The dash is very nice with no cuts nor extra holes. The original radio works and the speaker for the radio is in the back seat. The hood pull works perfectly and the engine lid pull works perfectly as well. Tires are all radials and the car "tracks" well going down the road--good and straight. When the brakes are applied the car does not pull to any one side. Here is a link to over 80 photos of the car: https://plus.google.com/photos/102989007469098779939/albums/5861244794709251697?authkey=CIrPpYPX3ei-Rg Here are two videos of the car being driven: 1960 Porsche 356 coupe drive #1 - YouTube and 1960 Porsche 356 Coupe on a test drive #2 - YouTube This car is the reason to own a Porsche 356. It is just so much fun to drive and everyone looks at you as you go down the road. The previous owner in fact told me that I drive the car too "softly", that I really need to put my foot into it. We went for a test drive with him driving it and he drives it to squeeze every ounce of power and speed out of the engine. I asked him about this and he said, "...drive this car hard, it can stand it". He built the engine and it has a transmission rebuilt by Vic Skirmants with approximately 3000-4000 miles on it. So I now follow his advice and just have a ball everytime I take it out. Rarely do you find one like this. This is what these cars were meant to do. I understand and respect a beautifully restored 356 but I am too afraid to drive it, worrying the whole time that I might get a stone chip in the paint or a door ding if I park it at the supermarket. With this car I just drive it and have fun. Below are pics since my ownership. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking, Tom tomprinciotta@gmail.com Last edited by tommott; 07-30-2013 at 06:27 AM.. |
