FS: 1973 911S Targa Original Owner
1973 911S Targa
Original owner car. I drove this May production car off the dealer lot in August of 1973. It was my daily driver for almost ten years, much of the mileage being highway miles between Mexico City and San Antonio. In ’82 a Turbo became my everyday car and I put the car in for a complete reconditioning at 82,000 miles. The car was thoroughly disassembled down to the bare tub, repainted and refurbished completely. This took about 5 years, emerging as new with the modifications listed below. Since then the mileage has been limited to fun trips and outings. It’s been meticulously maintained, no expense spared to keep it running as new. I’m well aware that these days, some may be looking for 100% original cars, and some of the modifications made in the roaring ‘80’s are now not in favour. These are basically; door pockets, seats, 16” wheels, black trim, flares, colour change. However these where all done to a very high standard. All of the work on the car was done by Jones Autowerkes in San Antonio, Texas. Bill and Bob Jones have been in the Porsche only business for over 50 years and are recognized experts in the 356 and 911 community. I see many cars that require extensive and expensive rust reconstruction along with extensive mechanical restoration. This is a car that is in perfect condition but has, in comparison, relatively minor requirements, if so desired, to restore it to original specification. Most of it can be accomplished bit by bit while still enjoying the car. This is still a matching numbers car. The original window sticker, dealer invoice, and very complete service records accompany the car. Overview: As mentioned above, it continues to run like new at 143,000 mi. Originally metallic silver, it was repainted GP White. Factory RS flares were butt welded and leaded in, hand shaped rear steel bumpers to flares. No Bondo. Factory RS ducktail, (pretty valuable by itself), and aftermarket front fiberglass spoiler. Engine: 2.7 RS 8.5 compression Mahle Nikasil Pistons and Cylinders on the original matching number block. Shuffle pinned, case savers, line bored, upgraded oil pump, 930 tensioners etc. SSI heat exchangers. New Sanden style A/C compressor. Factory 28 tube cooler w/original 73 only thermostat and lines. MFI injection pump converted to RS Spec by Gus at Pacific Injection. Thorough top end and complete reseal at 103,000 miles. Leakdown at recent last completed service was 98% on all cylinders. There are no external differences between this engine and the 2.4S engine. Interior: As original except 74 style door pockets and Recaro LS sports seats done leather with perforated centers by Tony at Autobahn interiors. Front velour carpet areas are showing wear. Details: Fuch 6x16 and 7x16 wheels with Bridgestone RE11’s. European H4 headlights, 80/100W with relays. Factory sport shift. Factory one piece replacement dash, (all that was available at the time). Targa top completely rebuilt by Dan Pechtel. Full suspension rebuild at 131K, Elephant rubber bushings front and rear. Torsion Bars: 21 front, 26 rear. Shocks: Koni Gas adjustable, red front, sport yellow rear. Included: Original steering wheel and horn ring, warm air intake box, 2 6x15 and 2 7x15 Fuchs. Original mag lower valve covers, Soterick exhaust tip. You should have no qualms about picking this car up and driving her cross country. All you’ll need to do is regular maintenance.
