Comfort Entry / Reverse Mirror

Hey folks,

Wondering whether anyone else has had some similar issues. I have a 2011 Cayenne S, and I have two issues (both likely electrical in nature I believe):

Issue 1: With comfort entry turned on, and seat setting etc set properly, new battery in the key as well, when I put the key in the ignition and close the driver door, the seat should move the its set position (in my case slightly forward). About 50% of the time it fails to move forward at all, but if I press the memory button on the door, it moves to it's correct location. Regardless of whether the seat moved forward or not, once set, and I remove the key / open the door, the seat reverses as normal. I can't find any faults nor could my local dealer.

Issue 2: this started happening recently, and has to do with the passenger mirror when I set the reverse assist option for the mirror to drop when the vehicle is placed in reverse and then returns to normal position when driving forward again. Recently, it won't return from the down position, but I can use the mirror up button to "force it" back up. If I press the memory button, I can hear the mirror motor clicking. What I don't understand is why the motor works using the mirror button, but not with the memory button. I don't know if there is an electrical circuit variance between the two to isolate the problem, nor whether Issue 1 and 2 could somehow be related, being linked to "settings".

Any thoughts would be greatly aprpeciated.

where the chap flipped the motors around (appeared to have a similar problem) and as the driver mirror doesn't drop when reversing it appeared to work for him. Will try it, although there are two different mirror motors (955.624.047.01 - w/o memory, and 955.624.048.01 - w/memory). Will see what I can find and post over the next couple of days.

So did some work on the passenger mirror today. Found out from dealership that it was in fact the 955.624.048.01 (w/memory) which would run about $250 Cdn + tax (ouch). Took the mirror off carefully by tilting it outward and then carefully pulling on the interior side to pop it off.



Then removed the electrical connector which just pulls out. There are three screws (one sort of hidden through a little round hole on the top) #10 Torx, just be careful you don't drop / loose them as they're quite small.

Once they're removed, you can carefully pull the motor out and disconnect the blue-ish electrical connector and take the motor to a table / bench. This is what it looks like:



Carefully remove the silver screw in the centre, taking care not to loose the spring underneath - it's not under any great tension though (put it aside). Now you have to carefully pry the cover off - I used two very small standard screw drivers and started at the spot where there was a gap and slowly worked my way around. Take your time as I expect, forcing it will necessitate a trip to the dealer . Also ensure you note how everything came apart to make sure all the parts fit back together as designed.

Once the top is off, you'll notice a white disc on the top which simply sits in a small cup shaped hole, remove and clean and apply slight bit of grease underneath when replacing (it isn't screwed down, so don't loose it).

This is what the parts look like once separated:



Clean all the parts off carefully, taking note of the backing bowl shaped piece. You'll note two areas of grooves, these are what the motor gears roll against, so make sure they're cleaned well with no foreign objects present.

Then take a look at the main motor - you'll see the two small electric motors if you look through the back hole as well as two white gears, and on the outside, you'll see two black gears nearly flush with the finish (these are what rolls on the bowl shaped piece.



I cleaned out any gunk from inside the motor area (didn't strip it any farther, although possible by separating more plastic bits, but didn't want to loose any internal gears etc or have a problem with reassembly - just in case). I then applied a slight bit of grease with a small standard screwdriver to the sides of the white internal gears, and black external gears. Re-aligned the motor as centred and level as possible (ensuring that the black gears were aligned with the cup ridges) in order to simplify putting the cover back on and being able to align the silver screw with spring. The cover just clicks back on (make sure you reassemble it the same way you took it apart to ensure the bolt holes with realign. Then proceeded to reattach the electrical connector from the mirror housing to the motor. Ensuring the motor didn't move around and scratch something (a second pair of hands is helpful here, so you don't have to screw it back together yet), I put the ignition on and ran the mirror settings to all four extremes (up, down, left and right). Then disconnected the electrical connector again and applied a bit more grease now that the gear had rotated through a full cycle. Cleaned the rest of the inside of the mirror area, reconnected the blue-ish connector to the motor, replaced the three #10 Torx screws (don't over tighten) and then put the mirror back on in reverse of removal (ensuring you reconnect the mirror electrical connecter. Clean all those finger prints off the mirror that are likely there now. I then turn the ignition on, selected the passenger mirror and ran through all the directions to reset it (up, down, left and right). I also reconfirmed where I normally want it prior to "Setting" the #1 position on the door once again, and readjusting the reverse operation of the passenger mirror. All done, and nice and quiet for now. Just take your time. Hope that lasts the life of the vehicle.
