2019 Cayenne - Dealer Oil Change or Not?
I have a ‘19 Cayenne delivered new December of ‘19. Last December, I took it to the dealer for a one year service, oil change, etc. They suggested a tire rotation even though the vehicle had 3,200 miles on it. I said ok. They charged quite a bit for the oil change, filter, looking it over and tire rotation. Also charged for balancing the tires of which I was not asked about but they claimed it is part of their rotation service.
I did get a little relief from the bill since was $1,900! Well, now the vehicle has about 5,800 miles on it and the service light has come on indicating oil change time, etc. Any reason regarding warranty I can’t do my own oil change? All other fluids look good as they are only two years old. Tires are excellent and don’t believe they need anything. Thanks, Charles in Dallas, TX |

You need one of the code readers to reset the interval. The dealer charge for that service seems insane as the oil change and wheel rotation are no different than for other vehicles.

Do it yourself, super easy, especially if you have air suspension to raise it up. As stated you will need a tool to reset the service interval, I use iCarSoft.

I do mine. I generally don't trust most mechanics. I took it for a state safety inspection the other day right after I changed the oil/filter. When I picked the car up, they told me "That will be "$175." I asked, "What did you find that needed fixing during the inspection (wondering why they didn't call). The guy said, we didn't do an inspection, we changed the oil ...we would need another day for the inspection. He pulled out the paperwork to show me that I didn't ask for an inspection and then realized that they screwed up. Although they did not charge me for the oil change, I think they only opened one of the plugs to drain it as it was souple quarts overfilled. I had thought about using them for my oil changes...but decided to continue to do it myself. Although I have to dispose of the oil, it only costs half as much and i know it is done right.
If you do change it yourself, do not make the mistake I did. Although my oil drain pan is very large, the top part only hods a few quarts that drain though a hole into the main part of the container. The oil comes out so fast and there is so much, this drain cannot keep up and much of the oil overflows onto the floor. Now I use a large open container (bucket) and transfer it to the oil container afterwards. As noted above, if you have air shocks, you can set the car to the highest (offroad) level and you can slide right under there to do it. I reset my indicator with a Durametric tool.
