Anyone Know The Down Low on Tow?

The subject of this thread is a lot like a motor oil one in the 911 forum,

Hopefully not as controversial as an AC thread though

I installed an aftermarket Curt tow hitch on my 05 3.2 Cayenne.
It worked out great for my original intent as a bike rack holder and to put a rear Harbor Freight cargo tray.

But now it looks like I may need to tow some items, nothing to big, just a small trailer that will not have electric brakes.

Does anybody know what are my real options?
1) For about $800 I can get the OEM set up that includes the brake controller that goes in the rear wheel well on the passenger side.

2) For under $100 you can get an aftermarket set up which apparently just controls the lights and the turn signals.

Here are a few questions;

A) The OEM set up includes a module that goes in the front foot well by the CAN connection. What does this do and is it necessary?

B) If I went with the aftermarket setup will this trigger some type of error on the display or cause electrical gremlins?

C) If located the factory pigtail which resides near the CD changer could I use that to cleanly and smoothly connect to an after market light controller and not need to splice into any wires and still get full functionality of turn signals and brakes?

Thanks guys.

Towing

Hi I added an aftermarket tow package on my 2004 turbo that works great. Im towing a ski boat thats 4000 lbs. There are aftermarket modules that tie into the fiber optic system to control trailer lights and run $200 installed or so. No issues with errors or malfunctions.
You should have no problem as long as the hitch is rated for the job your doing.

Another option.
You could go with the "For under $100 you can get an aftermarket set up which apparently just controls the lights and the turn signals." just make sure it goes to a 7-way connector w/ a 12v lead.

AND get this;
Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional Tekonsha Brake Controller 90250
It's what I have to control my elect brakes and it works great.

Thanks for the replies guys;

Imcoz- I've heard good things about the Prodigy controller, thanks for the link.

cpattonco- Do you have the name of your product? I am interested in that because it may have the connections to plug into the existing 955 wiring.

I appreciate the input

Well I am pleased to report that I figured out the down low on tow.

In the process of writing up how I installed a factory brake controller in my 2005 V6

Stand by . . .
