08 Cayenne drive shaft failure

Sorry for repost. Something happened and first post disappeared!
Drive shaft bearing failure at 89k, just 9000 miles out of CPO warranty! Anyone else with this $ problem? Any thoughts on Vertex auto aftermarket bearing support retro-fix? Maybe I'll go another 89k before this happens again, who know.

just wondering.... did it just fail abruptly or was it a slow decay? I have 92k miles and no failure yet on my 09. Thinking of replacing mine with the vertex one as preventive maintenance (hate to wait till it fails when I'm a kazillion miles from home). Seems that more cayenne owners are over at rennlist more write ups about drive shaft failure there.

The bearing on mine went at about the same mileage. I did the complete driveshaft replacement from Vertex this lasted less than one year. I then replaced it with the "lifetime" replacement bearing very easy to do took about an hour and has been in there for almost a year no issues so far. Good luck

I have an 08 Cayenne base 6 cyl and went with lifetime bearing, it's a square box contraption that sits over your existing shaft, this failed after 10k miles so paid for Vertex shipping for a reconditioned shaft. This has lasted for over 30k miles now and my 08 has 127k. You have two options w Vertex, they are reputable.

FWLIW and YMMV...
I centered the bearing as best I could and covered the torn rubber ring in Honda high temp gasket sealer about three months ago.
Rather unPorsche-like and unconventional but it's worked great (so far) and for $13USD and about 30 minutes work, a pretty good temp solution at least.
If your bearing rubber gasket has yet to tear, I would surely cover (lightly) with this and it may last forever. (No guarantees) If your rubber part is completely gone, this repair will not be feasible since you need that substrate for the Honda gue to adhere to.
