Recommended water pump?
Guys,
There are so many different units out there. What have you all used? OEM? GEBA? Laso? Beck/Arnley? Vaico? Hamburg-Technic? Graf? Also --- is the stock factory termostat a 83 degree unit? Does it matter whether I pick up the OEM one or a Wahler unit which is 1/2 the cost? Anything else that you guys believe would be beneficial to conduct work on while in there? I have already done the intake manifold gaskets, the spark plugs, coil packs, and the valve cover gaskets. Thanks! Paul

Hey Paul,
Most of our customers like the Porsche Genuine parts kit for the water pump as it's factory made and the car was tested with this part while in production. Check out the link below or give us a call at 888-280-7799 and our Parts Specialist will be happy to assist you and make sure everything works out for your exact model. I tend to stick with OEM supplier or Genuine parts. Graf is a good brand pump to go with. There is a review on it on our site from a customer that can give you their input as well: 2004 Porsche Cayenne S Sport Utility - Water Pumps. There is also a 24 Month / 24,000 mile warranty on that specific one for ease of mind as well.
Dmitry posted a link that goes to our water pump super kits, which are awesome because they give you additional parts that are complimentary items to replace while in there for the job. The items that would be relevant from the kit for you would be the two hoses below: Upper hose radiator to engine - 2004 Porsche Cayenne S Sport Utility - Radiators Hose Upper Lower hose radiator to engine - 2004 Porsche Cayenne S Sport Utility - Radiators Hose Lower Check your coolant expansion tank cap to see if it's still in working condition. DIY for replacement: Porsche Cayenne Water Pump Replacement | Pelican Parts DIY Maintenance Article and don't forget to use Genuine Porsche coolant mixed 50/50 with distilled water: 2004 Porsche Cayenne S Sport Utility - Coolant. |

The OEM pump lasted only 54k miles for me before it started leaking. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the other brands that are much cheaper. I have always used Laso in the past and have had good luck with them on my other cars.
