I fitted a Subaru transaxle and it fits!

So im going to be doing so testing for a new gearbox thats going to be offered as an alternative for the 901 and 915. Smoother shifts, cheap rebuilds, cheap clutches, better ratios. I have just fitted it to my sc and ill be testing it in the upcoming months. I will be putting about 400hp through it and report back. Its fitted with CNC'd 930 output shafts and has sightglass to make things easy. Along with an LSD

How will you convert it for rear engined use?
Flip the ring and pinion? Or run it upside down?
Or just live with one forward gear and 5 reverse gears?

This has been done before.

Do you have a solution for the select shaft that has to go above the torsion tube? This means a hole in the hump on the rear seat pans and a linkage above the tunnel. Not sure many will be willing to drill that hole.

I put a Suby drivetrain in my 914. Rigged a cable shift and it was so much better than the 914 gearbox. 4 times the stock HP value didn't hurt either.

hole is cut and raised shifter box is made, the sorta person that fits an LS1 doesnt worry about cutting a hole haha. think hargett shifter

which way does a stock Subaru gearbox turn when put in a 911 unmodified ?

My guess is more reverse gears than you need as a Subaru motor runs the "correct" way and not reverse like a Corvair

Subarugears make a reverse r&p gear to get 5 forward gears

Not really stout. In the WRC days it was called the glass gearbox. Once the cars started going over 350hp they had major reliability concerns. The gears themselves are no wider than 915 gears. I've ripped teeth off with a stump-pulling 150 AWHP.

I have experience with high power in the 5 speed boxes. It can take 300 WHP as long as you don't launch from a dead stop. The 6 speed STI gear box can take all kinds of abuse though. It is about 100 lbs heavier and much larger.

We're putting 800whp through the 6spd boxes. It's a totally different beast.

Blast plates only address case flex. They won’t make the gears wider.
