911 with all aluminum sbc434 ci engine

ive never said much about this conversion. it was done several years ago and time to take her apart and do a few improvements. it is a 71 911 coupe with rs flares and an all aluminum dart 434 cubic inch sbc engine and shortbell housing 930 gearbox. it has most of the improvment stuff such as big brakes, linday 17 inch by 9 rear wheels, big bars, etc. the engine is a full roller with mass flo efi and makes 550 horsepower and as much torque. i sold my ls7 powered 930 and now i am stuck with this....not as much hp but my favorite of the two. ill post a few pics along the way....

What kind of overflow can is that on the left side of the engine bay? How is it plumbed in? Is it a commercial product or custom?

thanks

fred, the overflow/recovery tank is made by Canton Racing Products and is part number 80-201. i believe they make a couple of different sizes. i like the sight glass feature and it is very well made!

Is the overflow tank plumbed in by that small line that comes out of the water neck? I assume the large radiator hose goes to the radiator in front. What size hose do you use, 1.25 or bigger. Also, do you a mechanical or electric water pump? Sorry for all the questions...

the overflow/recovery tank is plumbed to the small line as you stated. the the larger water hose is 1.5 inches. i installed a mezziere 55 gpm electric water pump. i also have an oil cooler with an electric fan to help with cooling.no problem with the questions.

I have a 914 with a SBC, and I also have the 55GPM pump and dual oil coolers in front. I am still not happy with the temps I see. A lot of people say it is air in the system causing the problem. I have a swirl pot off a Pantera, but I don't think it works except as a fill point. Does your can have some provision to return water to the system?

thanks

yes it is a recovery system. as the system cools and a vacuum is formed it pulls water back into the system....

I like this one, too. Not as much as the black one since that car was so similar to mine. But this car is cool, too.

Which Transaxle do you have? I'm finding mine is a little short on gearing with the stock 915.

the car has a shortbell 930 gearbox. 2200 rpm is 70 mph in fourth gear.

That's a little better. I'm at 2800 rpm at 70mph in 5th. 1st is a stump puller. Feels like 4wd low on my jeep used to. Lol. I looked at the 10:31 ring gear. That would put me about where you are. Seems like the car has enough power to do 70mph at 1200rpm though. Not sure how to get there...

i just got my 930 gearbox back from protech motorsports. ready to start reinstalling engine and transaxle after a few other projects on the car. i recently bought an austin healey with a sbc motor and transmission and have been working on it. i made a dash to st louis to pick up a set of aluminum fenders to replace the rather outlandish ones currently on the car.

well it has been a while since I last posted about my 71 911 conversion. I got side-tracked on Austin healey conversions for the past couple of years. I sold one of the healey conversions and am driving the second one. so now to get back to the 911. I got the motor and rebuilt transaxle in place. half shafts connected and working on some lesser items. I hope to have the car ready to start in a month or so.

well I finally am back on the road with the 911. I have not driven it in several years due to other projects. and, I needed to correct a couple of things on this car. it has mass flo efi and has to relearn the fuel maps???. the ecu loses its info when the battery is disconnected. so, I am out and about getting the ecu loaded back up with info. running strong!

Nice!

Got any pics of how you ran the coolant lines and your radiator setup?

I’m also doing a water cooled swap and trying to figure out the best way to route the coolant lines so they’re not really visible from the outside and are protected underneath

I know it has been six months since the last update. But I'd love to see pictures of all of the areas of your car. And thanks again for reaching out to me regarding my 911 SBC and 930 transaxle.

i thought that i would comment on this forum about the 911. im probably going to sell it soon. at 80 years of age my lifestyle has become mostly sedentary. and, recently I have acquired a taste for early broncos. so if you guys know of anyone looking for a longhood with lots of power send them my way. basic description of the car in my initial post. a pic of my 71 bronco and it is not for sale!
