Hey so i finally tore it down,
its a long story that i didnt write here lots of **** happened in ohio before motor went but i did finally tear it down about 2 weeks ago picking up the spare motor tomorrow that im stealing the head from

basically all 8 valves are bent, # 2 intake lifter blew right out, top came off chunk out of head(mounting block for cover) and cam some nasty chunks...= head trash not worth fixing it had like 360k i put another 5k...

new used motor only has 160k km so im tearing it down will sell all the good stuff i dont need. if looks good as is will just put the new cam, bearings etc. lifters etc.

if lots of carbon build up if not will send out to be cleaned redone etc than bolt it on !

slowly and surely.

and honestly im not worried about motor for the 28psi.
the clutch i was using is/was not designed for a diesel, im currently working on an alternate plan maybe use the sachs SRE setup with a 968 HD disk or something unsure but those are tried and tested

i have basically had my fun racing it once and know those downshifts blew it to smithereans!

until next update !

Happy to report she is running okay. Maybe a few bugs to work out.

But I finally manage to fit the hitch back onto this car. I had made it for another of my 944s but adapted it to my s2. After all. This thing definitely doesn't lack the power to pull my small 4x8 aluminum trailer.
Made a custom plug and play wiring harness!

Finally spent thr time and modified a spare fuel neck. No more adaptor needed ! Hallujah for fill ups.

Ifal goes well she'll be driving back to 944fest this september

unbelievably it broke down on the drive home from 944 fest again... UNREAL!!

this time while puling the trailer out of nowhere.

and verdic was... i sheered the clutch center out of the disk lol..

anyway i finally pulled the trigger on the Fancy A** Clutch

Audi Sachs SRE kit
240 MM DMF designed for TDI
968 turbo clutch disk(solid hub)
Sachs SRE PP.

and well see how she goes, currently hibernating!

I just stumbled on to this thread. Great swap! When I bought my first 944 the fellow had a 924 as well with a bad engine. I could have bought it for very little and regret not doing so. I too am a huge fan of the TDIs and have 2 spare engines at the moment. I have been dreaming about a TDI swap for several years now. That 924 would have been perfect!

My present '83 944 runs far too good to cut up so perhaps another without an engine will show up in the future. Thanks for the inspiration!

I actually haven't cut up this car at all in that aspect. It's a custom front crossmember. Custom trans. Everything could easily be reverted on this car back to a stock s2. My plan all along if s2 values ever hit a real money worthy #.

But yea it was cheaper than a proper rebuild on the disassembled s2 motor. Though that was years ago. I'd probably ly slap in a spare one I have or a 968 motor. Who knows. But best of luck if you ever go down the road.

Proud to say I hit 10k km on the swap this week. This isn't really my daily driven car as we have 2 basically babies. So doesn't work for pickup or drop off. Only get to use when no kids!

On to the next 10k!

Decided to splurge and buy another gearbox. Taller gears and bigger ring gear.

3.750 vs the 3.556 ratio.
Current box code is HCF. Swapping to an HCK

Will also be installing likely a quaiffe diff into it.

It's funny no retailers technically sell an lad off the shelf differential for the audi 01x diesel box but with careful research.

The diff is 100% identical to the like gen 2 boxster/cayman.

The 97-99 uses the smaller bearing or side cover but the 2000-2004 I believe is the same!
Diff part # borrowed from 1 another !

So the quaife 16 diff should drop right in.

I tried to find a used one for a while but have wince given up, so once I get this box opened up and give ir a good bill of health I'll pull the crown off the stock open diff. Order up a new quaiffe diff. Install new bearings. Reset the diff for backlash and preload and call it a day!!
Happy weekend folks
