85.5 944NA with 944S2 engine
Hey all. I have completed the engine swap for my Wife's 85.5NA 944.
she now has a 3.0L 16V engine from a 944S2 year 89. rebuilt the engine, all new bearing, seals, gaskets, and hardware. in order to do this swap as smooth as possible you will need completed S2 engine from exhaust collector section to Air flow meter. DME, and engine harness with injector exciter/resistor. Engine bay harness with ignition amplifier. Also you will need the throttle cable for the year engine you get. I do also recommend upgrading the brakes to either Wilwood or 944 Turbo/S2. 944S2/turbo radiator/fans is a must, the stock 2.5L radiator is too small to deal with the extra heat. This engine swap was long needed to replace the tired 295k mile 2.5L 8V and well worth the work and time. took me a total of 30 hours doing all the work myself in my garage at home with standard tools. whole swap, with Engine, harness, brakes and new wiring pieces was $3600. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pulling engine, I normally pull the intake off. and DME harness out of the cabin and lay on the engine. also I pull the Alternator and AC compressor. Pulling the Radiator, condenser, badge panel, lower valance and bumper gives you a lot more room to work and get the engine out if you do not have access to a lift. ![]() ![]() More down. |

swap Cont.
![]() ![]() Painted the brake booster gold, because Black was boring. ![]() Wiring, The engine bay harness has color coded/size fitted plugs that go right into the bottom of the fuse block and they are held in place with some slide clips that go the length of the lower section of the fuse block. ![]() ![]() ![]() Ignition amplifier. ![]() Engine installed and all up a going. I had fun with the colors, because to me Factory is boring lol! ![]() I will load more pictures of some of the finer details. but this give a good amount of idea of what was done. Brakes: 944 Turbo ![]() ![]() For the rec counter/Tac. there is a 4 pin red connector in the Right side of a LHD car. the only one needed in the green with black line. on the S2 DME harness side, there is a 8 pin connector with the same color wire. Cut it, sewage on a red blade connector and plug in into the red 4 pin connector. Well that is my S2 swap in my Wife's 944NA as promised ^_^ Hope you all Enjoy!!! |
