subaru WRX turbo engine into 944 NA

What do you think about this conversion?? a subaru impreza wrx turbo engine ( in line 4) into the 944 NA.....the only problem is that I dont know if the engine mounts fits, or if the torque tube is adaptable to it......anyone knows about this conversion??

the wrx is not an inline 4 it is a flat 4 (subaru bought the pattent from VW) and thus will not fit.

Violent..Just curious..

Was there a patent on a flat 4? I remember the Corvair with it's flat 6 (worked on a number of them) and do not remember reading anywhere that there was a patent on that configuration. And, isn't the WRX engine water cooled?

Asking because I really do not know. Just doesn't sound right....

yes the wrx engine is watercooled, subaru bought the patent from vw to eliminate initial development, vw produced liquid cooled flat 4's as well (waterboxer)
subaru has made a lot of advancement with the design since aquiring it.

no doubt GM looked at the vw engine while developing the corvair, but it was a design of their own development.

Thanks. Didn't know thet. Am familiar with air cooled aviation designs pre dating Dr. Porsche's VW and didn't think the configuration was under patent protection.

it was the patent for the vw design not the flat 4 configuration

Look up Renegade Hybrids. They have kits for the installation of GM V6 and V8 engines. There are a lot of folks who look at this as heresy, but if you needed repairs in the future, there are a heck of a lot of GM engines out there and the supply of Porsche 944 engines is dwindling over time.

Just a thought....

Supra 6cyl engine is an inline 6, not a V6. It would most likely be too long for our engine bay. Your best bet is either another 944-series motor (you could use an S2, Turbo or 968 motor if you wanted more power) or go with the renegade hybrids GM V6 or V8 setup.
