How Hard To Get This 2180cc GEX VW Engine In My 912? PLEASE HELP!

Ok my 912 is terribly underpowered and so is my wallet. I just can't afford to have my 912 engine rebuilt to hi-performance specs.

I have heard a lot of people talking about putting VW engines into 912s. This sounds very appealing to me. I know that GEX sells 2180cc Dual Port turn key VW engines with Weber carbs and all for $2800 + shipping. Thats very affordable to me.

What I need is for someone to explain exactly what I would need for this conversion. I would order that engine and it says it comes with everything except exhaust and clutch for a regualr VW.

So basically what would I need to put this engine in my 912?

I am thinking:

1: Some sort of different throttle cable (but what kind?)

2: A custom exhaust (or will my 912 exhaust work?) I just want an exhaust I don't need a heater of any sort.

3: A stock (new) 914 flywheel.

4: A heavy duty clutch kit of some sort (but what kind?)

I think that would be about it or am i missing somthing? My 912 has the stock (but optional) 5-speed trans in it. So I would assume I would need a heavy duty clutch for that transmission and the 914 flywheel.

Other than that do I need any more actual Parts?

And what kind of modifications are needed to make the engine bolt in?

Thanks for the help guys, I have no one else to turn to because no one here knows anything about Porsches or these types of conversions.

DO NOT BUY A GEX MOTOR they are JUNK. I have 3 of their motors. One broke a piston and main case bolt.the crank, case were max cutsjust junk not even good for a core.It had 15000 miles on it. Save your money find someone who will not cut cost by using old worn out parts they slap together and call rebuilt.You would do better to build it yourself.

A 914 flywheel will not fit on a Type I engine. The Type IV engines use five bolts to hold the flywheel on, while the Type I uses one large gland nut. I haven't had the chance to get a close look at a 912/356 engine, but you might want to check to see if your flywheel will work, or the stock Type I flywheel.

It fits if you use a waterboxer crankshaft. see www.veemotors.co.uk/ I also build WBX type1 engines.Steve

I agree with Steve, the GEX stuff is garbage (I've seen their work on heads) Save your pennies and do it yourself. Its a simple rebuild,It'll be tons-o-fun and the satisfaction that u did it urself.
