Thanks.
Here are some shots of the custom oil tank I am mocking-up for Seth to build. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1328598179.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1328598226.jpg The tank will hold a bit over 3.5 gallons and will fill and vent from a opening flap cut into the outside of the truck. Here is a shot of the rear support for the hitch and shock mounts from the last visit to Seth at Twisted Minis. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1328598544.jpg Some parts for the oil system, Fluidyne front cooler that will be cut into the front bumper. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1328598785.jpg |
Bravo! Simply awesome.
To your fabricator: congratulations, sir! That exhaust -- usually we find that the simpler it looks, the harder is was. If it looks easy, it wasn't. Great build. |
Such an epic build!

Thanks guys for the kind remarks.
Fishcop, I have been following your thread in the bodywork forum and am using it for technical and mental preparation for when I tackle the body and paint on the d.c. Turbokraft, I am sure Seth will appreciate your remarks as one pro to another, I know he puts more effort into the build than my compensation can cover, but thats what talent and integrity can make people do. I have been working on some small stuff until Seth and I can get the dry sump tank built. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1331514445.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1331514477.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1331514502.jpg The seat base and back will get foam and vinyl covering. |

Here are some shots of the dry sump tank, test fitting before Seth does the final welding.
It is a stock Patterson tank that has been "adjusted" to fit in its new home. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1337048010.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1337048053.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1337048074.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1337048098.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1337048121.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1337048145.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1337048162.jpg |

Here are some more parts to the oil system, the vent and fill will be cut into the side of the truck and covered by a vented teardrop blister thing.

I found a photo of the form before I poured the epoxy to make the negative part.

Some more progress on the vent box.
I still need to cut some slots in the cover for the oil breather tank.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340644204.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340644225.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340644243.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340644261.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340644278.jpg |

Thanks Lukesportsman, I just wish I could have made it as light as a RS bumper, but in a early type 2 you need all the help you can get!
Here is some cable shift action. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1351463912.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1351463939.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1351463956.jpg Mostly done , just needs some detailing. |

Thanks again for the encouraging comments.
Some more progress on the electrical front. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352691944.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352691973.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1352692039.jpg I am adding six switched and six always hot fuses in the new engine bay, I would like to do a complete re-wire in the future but this should work for now, the stock vw wiring still works but has a lot of unfused circuits. |

Some more slow but sure progress, the electrical system is finished and I ordered the last of the oil system -16 fittings.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360432853.jpg I ordered four fittings and five feet of hose to get the dry sump tank hooked up so I could put the engine in. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360433165.jpg All the wiring will be wrapped after start-up, keeping it open till tested under power. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360433317.jpg The seat base in position, 1/8" clearance to idle valve. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360433504.jpg Working on the engine tin, front mostly done. |
Epic!
