Hey Seth,
Looking good, and coming right along. I'm looking forward to hear how it handles. |
Looking good! You should enter it in the Sebastopol car show on the 27th. We need more German cars there! I have my 911 entered. Last year there were three Karmann Ghias and a really nice Westfalia.

Hey Harold,
All the fabricating and layout on the front suspension has been done by me so far. Thusly the somewhat crude metal work. I will clean up all the parts and chassis paint them eventually when I am satisfied it all works as planned. I will eventually mount a splined sway bar for final tuning. Kinda curious myself as to how it will change the handling. Stephen Hey Gordon, Would be fun to enter the hometown show but will have to wait for next year as the D.C. is still in rehab. I will stop in and say hello if I get to check out the show. |
Another fun show is the Nor-Cal Treffen in Concord.
A laid back mix of Porsche and Volkswagen. I am hoping to make that one. You might have to flip a coin to pick your ride! |
Sorry Stephen, I meant you. Some serious fabrication going on there. Just swapping out the stock steering box to rack & pinion makes a big difference.

Roughed in the master cylinder mounting plate and plumbed the lines.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1500844625.jpg Took it out for its first drive in seven months. Overall seems to be good, much lighter steering/more steering lock. I need to tune the alignment more to give it a good test, probably up the front springs to #650. Then pull it all apart again to do the detail fabrication. |
I just found this sextion on PP, and this thread specifically. Mind blowingly cool! Everything that makes the hobby great. My hat is off to you and Seth. John in CT.

Thanks John.
I took it off the road to do the finish details on 928S4 front suspension swap. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1523931220.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1523931220.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1523931220.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1523931220.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1523931220.jpg Next up will be fabbing in a splined sway bar. |
Hey Stephen,
Some serious fabrication going on. Looking good. H. |
Simply amazing fabrication. I heard a rumor about turbos? OMG.:D

Thanks Harold, it took a bit of time to resolve the layout geometry then I needed to up my limited welding skills at my local maker space where they have the 220 volt machines to melt the parts together.
Yes Gordon, there will be turbos! Twins>eventually..... |

I have the D.C. back on the lift to make room for my new wheel/tire set up.

Fittipaldi which I built to 8.5 front and 9 back 17" Presently the tires are 225/45/17 front and 255/40/17 rear. the springs are #700 and the suspension cycles thru 3" of droop and 2.5" compression without fouling thanks to the ant-rub tub action. |
Looking good.

Looking good! I’m moving slower on the front suspension. Decided to go the race route. Still in the process of gathering parts.
Did you flair the rear fenders to fit the 255’s? I’m running 245/40/17’s on 3 pc Fuchs and had to roll the lip to get 1/8” outside clearance. Keep posting the progress. |
Thanks Gordon!
Hey Harold, no rolling involved (yet). I have about an 1/8" gap from outside fender and about 5/8" or so clearance inside to various bolts. That is with stock 944s2 rear suspension with early offset aluminum arms. So, what is Race suspension? What have you got cookie' in the rare desert air? |
i have 3/8” on the inside, and rubbing on the outside. I used a piece af aluminum pipe to roll the fender, which left a series of dimples.
I’m going with ERP 935 control arms, and Smart Racing/Fox Shocks coil over struts. Also realized I will need to weld in camber plates. You can adjust the wheelbase with the control arms. The struts have adjustable spindle height, and 9 settings. Should make setting things up easier. I still have torsion bars in the rear, but added 150 lb helper sprngs. Will not be able to get as low as you. You mentioned adding turbos, what’s the plan. Would be quite a site watching a pair busses chasing each other around at a track day. |
That suspension for the front should work!
I have always planned for twin turbos in the future, one of the reasons to go with the 993 heat exchangers, plus as a kid I always wanted a twin turbo. Still years out probably, but always on the lookout for matched snails and intercoolers. Basic plan is low boost with aftermarket E.C.U. My goal is 10# per h.p. so in the 350 h.p. range. Track days are in the future (when I get front cage finished) would love to meet you half-way one day, Willow Springs? |
We would need to confirm they would let us on the track.
You should look/post on the turbo forum. I’ve seen a few 3.2 turbo conversions. I’d exchanged a few emails with Chris at Turbocraft about converting my 3.2 to turbo. I did send the 5 speed trans to Wevo to get beefed up. How much h.p. Will the 944 trans take? |
I just pulled the trans a few days ago to do engine drop for oil leak mitigation.
I sought out the S2 944 trans-axle as it is the most robust version with suitable final drive ratio. I purchased a used non-L.S.D. version as it was all I could find at the time. I am looking for a used L.S.D. at the moment to get installed in my trans along with a overall re-fresh. This final version should be good for the expected future boosted power, essentially as strong as the 944 turbo trans which often tolerates modded turbos and LS1 conversions. |
Wow! What an amazing build. Just incredible fabrication. Thanks for sharing. I can’t wait to see the turbo conversion. You won’t regret it. The boost pipe is definitely addictive. The 3.2 is a great platform. Super robust bottom end and you already have EFI
What compression #s are you planning? It sounds like you’re set on twins but have you considered just running a large single ? Makes the plumbing and exhaust a whole lot simpler (although you guys clearly have the fabrication skills) and there’s some pretty good turbo options out there for our motors. Either way I think your HP goals are a bit conservative. Lots of good info on the turbo forum. Come on over |
