Thanks for words. I would love the rear fender flares and perhaps they will happen one of these days. I'm not overly concerned with AC either but it would be nice. It may be more appropriate to have the condenser in the front to keep the rear less crowded as stated. On another note. We got off to a late start today because of the snow so tomorrow will be another day.
We ran into problems with the wiring harness being way too short. Is there any reason why one couldn't put the computer in the engine compartmentr... Seems to be weather proof and properly sealed? Please chime in on this one... thanks! |
Put my PCM in the back seat and made a rear seat delete panel which slides out. Not sure if your harness has an ODB++ port but if it does mount it somewhere you can access it easily. I put mine in the middle and connect my diagnostic tool to monitor temp, rpm, IAT, ect..
BTW, my PCM was ordered for a 99 5.7 LS1 Camaro, now that I got the 08 LS2 Vette motor I plan to have the car Dyno tuned early next year. Figure I can squeeze an easy 40hp and get a more optimal fuel curve. In the higher RPM range I feel I am losing torque and power which could be the tune or fuel pump. No telling for sure until she gets hooked up to the Dyno and air/fuel ratio is recorded. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1293498138.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1293498212.jpg |
Todd, that rear seat delete looks great and an amp under the front seat? Has anyone put one of these pcm's in the engine compartment?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1293656144.jpg Well, did not realize the Camaro Harness was so short. The only good place to mount the computer was in the motor compartment. Apparently it is a common place to mount for the GM cars. Its been a slower week then expected but a lot of stuff is getting done. |
Well, she fired up today for the first time. Here is a link on youtube:

Took the car on the first ride. What power. It is almost unreal. Temp seem totally fine. I will add that the outdoor temp was probably 40 degrees. The fans kicked on at 196 and cooled right down. Temps never went over 200 even when stomping on it but it was limited. We shall see what the week brings.

glad to hear you got here running. Awesome job adding another V8 powered 911 to the streets..
|
nice job yan. i received my wiring harness today. the motor is almost built...awaiting oil pan and dyno...hoping for 700 plus chp!
|
Thanks guys. It does feel good. Got lots of cosmetic things to do but I'm on the way. I'm picking up a 930 wing on wed. I'm hoping I can adapt it with some mods. Just not wanting to widen my tubs yet. I'm still trying to keep to my original plan of not cutting the car in any way with the exception of the extra lid that I bought. Good luck Lin with the wiring harness. Mine was pretty short and the only logical place became the engine compartment. 700 Plus... Can't imagine after driving this freak today. 350 seems like a ton! Good luck!

Drove the car for about an hour last night after work. The power response is amazing. There is no lag. It is instant power. 1st gear seams like a waste but of course I will use it. I am going to order one of those G-Tech Pro RR devices that measure horsepower and 0 to 60, 0 to 100, 1/4 mile, anyone ever use one? Do you like it?

Hello
I have put my ecu to the left of the engine like the original Porsche. I made a alu plate to the fuses relays and ecu so i can take it out as one unit. Clean and easy. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1294315362.jpg Regards from Denmark |
sirhiss, that looks really clean! It looks great. I will post some newer photos today but you really cleaned things great! I left some of the original wiring harness from the porsche. My original porsche ecu was under the driver's seat. How is your car running? Mine seems to be without any problems so far. I just picked up a 930 wing yesterday and I have to see how to make my design work with the wing. Have you measured any times yet or hp?
thanks for the photo! Could you post some more of your build here also! |
I've added some photos of the completed engine compartment. I will do some modifications to tidy this area up in the spring. Right now I'm finishing up the wing from a 930. Hopefully it won't look too cut up. I decided it is just the right size for my narrow body. The 935 DP wing is great but too big and my AIR wing is incredible but too big also. Anyone want the AIR wing I will sell it for $350 plus shipping. You can see it in some of the photos above or on page 5. My G-Tech device will be here next Thursday so I will be able to give some really quick and reliable perfomance numbers to lay out what this car does with a stock '02 LS1 from a Camero. According to Jim's Performance, who Rengade sent my ECU to, the hp increase by tuning and turning off some of the "California" stuff should add approx. 40 to 60 hp. Not sure how that is possible but I have driven the car and it is scary fast!

I am supportive of anyone who engineers their own path with their own belongings. I have a hard time remembering...did Porsche build a car with a front engine, V8, water cooled? or maybe a six cylinder rear engine ....water cooled...I get so confused. There are many things that make the 911 and Porsche the best...engine is only part of it..but it seems even the German engineers like to be "flexible" in powerplant choices.

Looking great. Don't worry about the purists. Here is a picture of my LT-1 swap. Radiator in front. I'm only running 350-375 hp but I can hang the tail out at the press of the right foot. The power, as you now know, is really linear and the torque is unreal. I've taken other 911 owners for rides and they can't believe the power. You can drive it in town all day too, if desired. It is the best of both worlds. To all the purists: I also have a '99 996 convertible with a stock engine. I will say you haven't lived until you hear the mechanical bliss of a 911 at the last 2,000 rpm to redline. It is a GREAT car - no denying it. But my V8 will just run circles around it and any high school auto class kid can work on it. For performance, I'll take the V8 any day. For finesse, I'll take stock. There is room in this world for both. Don't be so judgmental. Enjoyed your thread, keep it up.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1294513192.jpg

Hello again
Here is a picture of the alu plate i used for all my ecu etc. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1294773558.jpg And here is a link to a Danish web page (early911.dk)where you can see my projekt, it is from Denmark but you can see the pictures:) have a nice day Early911.dk • Vis emne - En lidt anderledes renovering-ombygning af 911t årg.72 |
Hello Yan-
Nice thread, Your ride is Lookin good! Thanks for sharing a great build, I will post as I make some progress on my 1977 911S Targa LS1 project. I have been gathering/obtaining parts. With the the LS1 intake reversed, I have read some others had trouble with the RH kit & the throttle body hitting the rear shock tower/body cross member and having to modify the body, thankfully, you did not seem to have this problem, are you running the stock intake & TB ? Since you aren't to keen on cutting up the car, I thought you might have a solution, or a fix, ( if this is at all nessescary ) Thanks in advance, I live over in nearby Ct. Would be cool if I could take a peak. Jeff |
Jeff, Its not really the tb that hits the cross member, but its real close, it was the adapter. That TB adapter got in the way of the lip on the cross member. Its that 1/2 piece of lip above the cross member. I had to file down a section about 3" wide. I just had so much trouble with the silcone coupler from the TB to the adapter so the easy solution was to file that lip down slightly. It still passed my "no cutting of the car". I am in 12486 zip in case u want to see the monster. Can't wait to see your build.

Looks like a tight fit but what a cool project! Can't wait to see it 100% finished.

Yan-
Thanks for the response, I will PM you for contact info. Like yours & sirhiss my ECU will also be in the engine compartment. So is it the RH air inlet elbow the clearance problem ? Or will it be anything we attach aft of the TB ? I would like to find a solution, but I will modify the cross member if needed. By the way, a thanks to all the 911/LS1 guys on this forum who have inspired me & those after me. Jeff |
