LS Conversion coolant temps
I am hoping that the conversion group can post some results of where their coolant temps are at 4000 RPM at the end of a 10 mile drive. Remember that you can go slow in a low gear on any empty road or faster on a highway road but keep up the4 4K in rpms. There is no way that this could hurt these cars. It may be a little loud but that is it. I have trouble understanding why people wonder why anyone would ever want to take their LS conversion into that range of 4000 RPM. First of all it is generally in the area where the motor has more power from what I understand. Second, without a gear or RP swap it would be completely in the normal for highway driving to be in that RPM area on a stock tranny.
No one has posted this good information. It is information that can only help people trying to do these conversion correctly. We already know that we need at least a taller 5th gear for highway driving. If anyone finds the time to let their conversion take a 10 mile drive please let us know with your digital device like a computer or OBDII connection - what the coolant temp is or if it approaches 230 degrees and you stop driving at high rpms let us know how many miles at 4K it took to get there. I am assuming that most people have the front radiators. Size matters so if you know the size please let us know. If anyone else has a rear mounted radiator like me (don't think many people do) I have no feedback from anyone who has done the 10 Mile run. thanks in advance! |

I ordered a 996 center radiator on fleebay. $120 with my ebay bucks. I am going to do a quick mount up front sticking out and see if I cool better. I am assuming as you all are that the more sq inches the better cooling and I should see that right away, running in series like Mitch's beautiful machine. I want to solve the disease instead of just putting a band aid on it. We shall see if it is simply the size that matters... I guess not a single person is testing my 10 mile theory out... Such a great time to see how well our cooling systems work under load... |

I have done a 944 conversion with a ls4 5.3l as a mid engine and the original radiator drove for over 10 minutes up a grade for 3+ miles and down again no over heating problem don't know the rpm

What kind of RPM were you at? What is the size of your radiator? Any pictures of your build?
