3.6 conversion throttle linkage return

I'm a new owner to this 930 with a 3.6 conversion, the previous owner or maybe the builder (I'm not sure) had a placed a return spring by the throttle linkage back by the transmission (drivers side rear area). The spring connects the linkage to a homemade fabricated aluminum tab on the trans. It works... but not 100% of the time. It does not return correctly for that last little bit of pedal. On occasion it causes the revs to hang. Picking up on the accelerator temporary fixes this. I could try a heavier spring but I have to ask...is there a better way to make or buy a throttle return spring to do this? I've read that some people put return springs by the accelerator pedal under the floor but I am unclear how to access that area. I wasn't sure if it was a good way of doing this or if there are better ways to accomplish the same thing.

Is your gas pedal (on the floor) getting hung up a little? It wouldn't hurt to have that replaced on a near 30 year old car.

Actually it is new but hanging up at the first part of pressing down on the gas pedal. That is a big part of the issue I think is the slight hang up. But when I pulled the mats away ...everything looked in very good working condition. Then I remember the pedal set is new since its from a g50 setup. when the 3.6 conversion was done. It seems like something may be binding slightly in the tunnel. I can feel it by reaching around the tunnel hole by the gas pedal but can't easily see it or get much of a good view. Maybe the linkage is rubbing up against something in there like a cable or some other line. I'm not sure how to access the tunnel. I guess from the inside, I probably have to pull the center console out and take a look.

Rear-engined cars and mechanical throttle cables (not drive by wire) really does not like if there is any binding on the cable. It makes it very difficult to push the gas pedal down or return to normal. Just make sure you have a good front to back movement in the whole car on the cable with little restriction.
