Converting back from V8 swap
I ve seen some nice looking V8 renegade swaps for sale that pricing seems reasonable. Is converting a V8 swap back to a Porsche motor too much effort? Does the V8 swap do some mods that are difficult to reverse?

converting
if it is a very well done conversion the conversion should not be too bad. but porsche prices for used engines and transaxles have escalated along with the car prices. for instance my 71 911 has a 930 shortbell transaxle which could be removed and sold for 5 to 6000 dollars. that would cover the cost of a transaxle i would think . my motor is an all aluminum dart sbc roller motor with 434 cubic inches, mass flo efi, etc and could be sold for several thousand dollars to the right party. the seats are early recaro idealz which are also rare and really pricey on the used market. the hargett shifter could be sold to cover the cost of converting back to original shifter. the aluminum cross member and trailing arms could stay as is as well as the big brakes on front and 930 rears. so if you find the right car for the right price you might be able to sell the v8 stuff to cover lots of the expense. the welding up of the front nose panel which has been modified to accomodate the radiator is not a very difficult task......so my comments would be ....yes it can be done but you need to break it down into what parts can i sell for value and what will the replacement parts cost!!!! add in a lot of your time for the switchback......add a little kentucky windage and then check used prices. and, dont forget there are rollers out there just needing a driveline!

I couldn't imagine converting mine back, but the process would be really easy.
Specifically, you'd need to replace panel PP230 and a small part of PP200C - check the Restoration Design webpage for reference. Once that's done, it's really just a matter of what you want to do. Nothing else was changed. And since this stuff is under the hood and schutz'd, it wouldn't even necessitate repainting the whole car. I have one small notch in my crossmember to clear the intake manifold, but it's welded in and schutz'd. Once you put a Porsche motor back in it, you'd never see it. Now, what would be an interesting swap, and something I've thought about, is to put a Mezger engine in it from like a 2007-2009 GT3. I think that would be a blast even if it did carry a horsepower to weight ratio penalty over the LS engine.
