Will Porsche negotiate

came into an small inheritance and was thinking about buying a 911 carrera. new or slightly used. I have an 88 I have owned for 25 years which I will sell. what I am wondering is will the dealer negotiate. or will they laugh at me and expect me to pay msrp. any thoughts on buying a new or slightly used porsche from a dealer would be appreciated. Atlanta

A 5 to 10% discount is doable.

Be prepared to shop around and maybe look/travel a little further afield. Naturally, much more inclination for a dealer to do something more generous on a car he/she already has in stock versus a special order. Be calm and remember you're driving the bus, not the dealer.
ALso, maybe don't sell the 88 until you've obtained the new model and proved to yourself you really don't want the older car anymore. The 88 is still an appreciating asset.
Best of luck in finding what makes you the happiest, John/CT.

They absolutely will, but it depends on the trim. When my father in law bought his Carrera 4 GTS, he was getting offered Turbos at competitive prices.

If you're just going for a base Carrera, I imagine the wiggle room is less.

New car.

And, if you are buying new, take factory delivery.

We did for our '86, and had a great time (on the Autobahn).

Consider a low mileage leased return - let the 1st owner take the big depreciation hit.

Your 88 911 is worth $40K plus most likely. You will be selling an appreciating or at the very least flat value asset. You will be buying a rapidly depreciating asset, new 911 or used. Not the best use of your small inheritance.

Having said that, dealers will negotiate slightly. Your best deal will be a used car, but have you driven the newer vehicles? They're huge in comparison to your 3.2, pretty much insulate you from the road and have all sorts of electronic nannies built in. Go test drive one, and drive it hard. These are new age Porsches; nothing like your old car.

I wouldn't do it.

5%-10% discount is doable from most Porsche dealers.

Go with a 1-3 year old model for the most value for your dollars. Try to find a car still under warranty or get a CPO car. If you are not worried about warranty there are some incredible deals on cars that are around 10 years old. They will still feel like spaceships compared with an '88 but also retain a fair amount of analogue feel.

If you do sell your 88 do NOT trade it in. Sell it private party or through a third party service like Bring A Trailer or via a broker on consignment to realize the highest gain.

The new cars are amazing. Yes they are bigger but have so much power! They are also some of the best handling cars in the world. After I drive my friends newer Porsche’s, my 85 Carrera feels raw alright, like a tin can! Then after two days I love it again. With the newer cars, you come out of a corner drop to second and power 300 plus horse power up to third. Nothing like it. Except maybe in the new 460 horsepower mustang gt.

I stepped down as the GSM of a Porsche dealer about 6 months ago. I can tell you without question they'll deal on a new car. Used cars will have some room too but its never and apples to apples comparo between used cars.

Let me know what you're looking for if you like. I have helped dozens of Pelican members find new or late model 911's and my fee is ZERO. I know most of the dealers on the east coast and many others around the country too. I worked for Porsche over 10 years.

New standard 18 Carrera/Carrera S coupe/cab can be bought at a 5% discount in CA. Sometime there is dealer cash on these cars also. It all depends on timing and inventory.

Negotiations will vary on used cars. Depends on how much room the dealer has in the car.

Dealer cash on a 911 ?

The last and only time was 2009 during the financial melt down.

My buddy leased a 17 911 last august (18s were out) and had $2000 cash showed up at the end of the month when he went in to sign.

The last and only time Porsche did cash on 911 was in 2009 during the financial crisis. I was a GSM with Porsche 10 years

I think it depends on the model. My brother just bought a GTS from Texas cheaper than he could of in Ca. Tim

There are some decent differences in price based on geography.

My mistake. They put an incentive on the money factor giving him a $2000 savings over the term.

The dealer was holding some points on the MF and decided to cut your friend a better deal. IIRC PFS had some lease deals on base C2 and C4 models in 2017. A change in MF wouldon't reduce the price of the car, just the lease payment.
