What would you replace a 996 TT with for same $
We have a well sorted and loved 2001 996 TT six speed in Orient red with ~126k miles. We bought the car from a friend about four years ago with ~120 miles, and have addressed or proactively fixed everything, including pinning the coolant hoses. The 415HP and AWD makes the car feel fast and stable, and we expect going forward that the maintenance will be low.
That said, over the last two years it has been driven no more than 100 miles and we are wondering if there is anything as interesting at the same $30k price range? |

have you done any research at all? Before I bought my 966TT I found RENNLIST to be a better option than Pelican for the water cooled cars. I only owned mine for 10 months before ridding myself of it. Wish I had it now, but hated it then.
30K seems pretty low unless there's something you are not sharing. some pictures will help cause only a couple guys here have crystal balls and they hate to fire them up for such a vague inquiry.

Thanks, and yes some research regarding price but hard to decipher the impact of mileage . Hagerty marks a #3 car at 46k and #4 at 38k, so I expect the car is 30 - 40k, but wanted to error on the low side to avoid debate. We are not interested in selling the car but might consider a trade, so we are looking for ideas.

That Orient Red sure looks good! My 996tt was Seal grey which was nice, but there are so many grey cars around. My Arena red 996 was a nice color in the sun.
What attributes would make you drive a car more? Fast, good handling, AWD? Perhaps a Golf R?

Puttering around town? A used Cayenne would work well for that in the $40k price range.

We have a great Truck/SUV, so the car would be more focused on vintage 70’s, 80’s, maybe a Datsun 510, MK1 vW, split window bus. We have two nice stock 914’s and tend to favor that feel, good handling, foot to the mat on every shift, and never really going fast.
That said, the 996 TT goes up in value just sitting, which makes it rare from that perspective. |

Two things I'll say:
1) at $30k that car would get flipped twice or maybe three times. In this market, with that color, mid 40s if there are no stories. 2) I miss my 996tt so badly it's not even funny. Hold on to it, it's special. |

Thanks, she has no stories outside of the miles, and costs nothing to operate…just sad to see it sit.

Man. Not that you would necessarily do it, but I'd consider trading my '84 Carrera for that beauty. However, if it were me, I'd keep it. Super nice car!

definately in the 40s these days. Lots of interesting cars in that range currently though less than ever.
Elise, e92m3, C6Z06, c7, early viper, CTS-V, are a few that occur to me, I am not sure if these are better or worse but certainly different

The questions I have are why don’t you drive it? And what would you drive more?
I’ve had a 40th 996 for nearly 2 years. I’ve put less than 2k mi on it. I would drive it more if it were a convertible. I enjoyed driving my old Boxster more, with 150hp less. Because top down. |
