? value of an 77 911s motor
Picking up a car with a 77 911s engine that runs. That is about all I know about it until I pick it up later. Anyone have a good idea on the value range? Milage unknown and I am sure no history on it. Thanks Ply

I hope you got a good deal on it....
unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on perspective!), I think the '74-'77 911 engine is deemed by most P guys to be the worst air cooled 911 engine built. It can be corrected of course (search), but it's not cheap.
Search the classifieds here for past sales on similar engines, and e-bay as well. A I can't imagine more than $1k for the engine alone, but if it was correctly rebuilt (and a bunch were) it should be worth quite a bit more. I keep checking CL for a really cheap non-runner of this era to pop up for an early long hood conversion, but they're becoming uncommon in ratty condition... |

I've seen them go from $1K-2.5K depending on condition and history. NOT having Thermal reactors would be a good help. But usually they are caked in oil, lots of leaks and, at this age, CIS units that need some reconditioning of vacumn lines, fuel lines etc.

Ok, I have learned a little from picking it up. It is the 77 911s engine that was completely gone through in 81 (wow). It was used in a race car, not sure what series but it has adjustable koni's on all corners and a karmin gih (spelling) front? with a ferrari type body kit in all fiberglass. Doesn't say much other than a regular 911 rear end. I bought it because it just looks like a fun project or to part, No idea yet. The windshield is out of a 66 corvette. It runs 5 lug 15 inch by 8 1/2 rims on rear and 14 inch rims on front. I have to get some pics other than what was on craigslist. It was in ft wayne indiana if anyone is bored. The engine runs but needs a fuel pump. Does anyone have a source for a timing belt for this car? It ran but it has been a long time since belt changes? The only history on the car/engine is in the form of a letter typed a long time ago. The car was originally raced in New York and then Idaho. It was in new york for two years and won it's class in SCCA for both years. It had the number 1 painted on all four sides. Pics to come tomorrow.

Needs to find the motor serial number.
A 1977 911 was a 2.7liter.. with about 160hp A genuine 2.0L "s" spec motor is 180hp and the early "s" registry folks would likely pay extra for it, vs a $1.5k 1977 motor. A 2.0L non-s motor, kept stock, is closer to about 130hp brown sure makes it look faster doesn't it ![]() Late 1960s-1970s was a great time for Kit car manufacturers.. looks like all the others.. but I can't put a name/brand on it.
