Price check for a 30K mile 89' 944 Turbo (951) with pics
Hello everyone. I am only THINKING about selling my 89' 951 and would like to get a price range for this vehicle. If the price is right, I am willing to part with my 951 and create a full detailed listing to sell. I am in no rush. As of right now, I would just like to see where the market is for a low mileage, well kept 951.
Here is a some details about my 951: I have kept a rigorous service/maintenance record of this vehicle and everything is up to date including the notorious timing belt and water pump. Oil changes have been changed religiously with Mobil 1 Sythetic EP with ZDDP additive. I have acquired this vehicle from my father at around 26k miles and have babied this car since then. This car has always been garaged kept all of its life and occasionally driven on the weekends. I am pretty particular about my cars. I would check the weather just to see if it would not rain so I could enjoy driving my 951. This vehicle has never seen snow nor salt. The paint on this car is absolutely superb. My buddy and I recently did a full professional color correction, detail and wax job for this vehicle. This car has barely any scratches and swirls. There are no dings on this car. There are other minor work done to the vehicle but the details will be revealed if/when the time comes. At this point, the vehicle has a little more than 30K original miles. The interior is immaculate with no rips or tears from the leather. The upper dash has no cracks, common of these vehicles. Everything is pretty much stock. This vehicle has never been tracked and abused. I have taken many precautions to ensure this vehicle will last a long time. As of right now, I still drive this vehicle on the weekends assuming the weather permits ![]() I have truly enjoyed this vehicle but quite frankly, it takes a lot of time and effort to care for two vehicles especially when one of your vehicles is a Porsche ![]() Let me know what you guys think this vehicle will sell for especially to that right buyer. Again, this is just to see where the market is going and if there is a good offer, I may be persuaded to sell. Thanks! Enjoy the pics! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

In michigan, it will be worth less. Two years ago an even lower mileage example was available near me. It was for sale at $14,5 and iirc, a bidding war for it ensued. Not sure this economy will warrant a bidding war. If searching for top dollar, say $16-18K, you will sit on it for a while and need to wait for the "right" buyer for the car. To sell the car moderately quickly, I would think a $11-13K price range.

Yea, that was what I was thinking. Despite all of the hard work on the car, the 944s will never gain back even half of it's original value. It's a shame. Good for the buyers, but not for the owners. I love the 944s and they are extremely fun to drive. I would love to keep it but like I mentioned before, taking care of two vehicles is taking too much of my time and money. I have to wash, detail, wax two cars. Repair and maintain two cars. Buy goodies and parts for two cars. Purchase insurance and register for two vehicles lol. The worst part of it is, I can only drive the 951 for half of the good year. It just doesn't justify me owning this car anymore.
I still love this car and am in no rush in selling. I guess I'll just wait for that right buyer or wait out for the economy to get better. If anyone is interested with any reasonable offers, please shoot me a message. Thanks for everyone's response! ![]() |

I would think that the original wheels would be a better fit when selling.. Pics show two types.. not sure which you still have..
How much time do you spend taking care of vehicles? What would you replace the 944 with? Would it be as much fun or just "less work"?

Hey racer. Yea, I was thinking exactly the same thing about the wheels. Yes, I still have both sets and when/if I do sell the car, I do plan to put back on the original wheels. Since there isn't any major repairs done on this since this is a low mileage vehicle, there was mainly the aesthetics. My buddy and I who's in the auto detailing business in southeastern MI had done a 24 hour detailing job on my car. That's why the paint looks virtually like it is brand new. I like to keep my cars that way for as long as possible. I spend my free time washing and adding a layer of wax when it needs it. Fluid flushes have also been done although the fluids in the car still look pretty fresh to me when it came out. It was done nevertheless.
I am still researching on what to get as my daily driver. Yes, I would like it to be as much fun to drive as well as less work. Taking care of one car is already time consuming already not to mention that it hurts your wallet at the same time. I am actually leaning towards an Acura RSX Type-S. It's not too expensive, fun to drive, reliable, and will be decent in the snow since it's a FWD vehicle. Plus, there are a whole bunch of aftermarket goodies for it to keep me occupied ![]() Last edited by Its_Scott; 10-14-2009 at 05:18 PM.. |

I know it's trivial, but the rear center PORSCHE reflector and relocated license plate would be a turn off for me if I was looking for a low mileage 89 951.

If you want to get top dollar for this car then I would pay the money to have the rear reflector removed and the holes filled in there and on the bumper properly. I would put the stock wheels and radio back in the car and buy some stock floor mats. Organize all the service records so that you can substantiate the low mileage.
Then take a bunch of pics and post it up for what you are hoping for. You'll find a buyer eventually as these low mileage turbo S cars are getting rarer.

Thanks JoshB! Those are some good pointers!
P.S. The stock mats are there. It's under the rubber mats. I just don't want the stock floor mats to get dirty ![]()
