Boxster Caliper Market Price?
Hi guys, I'm a VWer looking to source some Boxster/Cayman front calipers for a brake project on my Mk6 GTI, and I was wondering what a fair price for them would be?
On eBay, the sets are selling for a fairly high price, and the new front calipers are pretty much equal to the Pelican Parts price as per on the site, so I'm scouring forums and the like to try and find individual calipers for sale. If you could help me out with some pricing information, and perhaps where to best find these single calipers - almost like mythical unicorns! - I would be most grateful. Thanks in advance! |

well, there are two items here.. There is 986 based Boxster and 9876 based boxsters. IIRC, they don't use the same calipers.. and the 986 Boxster S uses 996 front brakes.
What is the perceived advantage over the Mk6GTI brakes that the Boxster calipers provide? Wouldn't you also need to change rotors too? Is this for "bling" or actual benefit?

I'm going off this thread here: NQS BBK - A Not Quite So Big Brake Kit.....Now on with PICS
According to the gent who wrote the thread, the 986/987 share calipers, and it seems from my research that they use the same size rotor/pads. Boxster S uses different, thicker rotors, yes. The advantage provided by the 986 calipers over the standard GTI brakes are the four-piston monoblock calipers versus the regular single-piston calipers that come as OEM. More progressive stopping power, better performance during track days, and a goodly selection of pads. The rotors, according to the thread, do not need to be changed though two-piece options are available if so desired. This is for actual benefit, as the rotor size remains the same and weight is reduced due to the lighter calipers, while gaining stopping power. If I wanted "bling" as you so said, I would go for a bigger rotor size kit - such as the massive Touareg/Cayenne kit, which refuses to fit under 18" wheels are can fill out a 19" or 20" wheel just fine. ![]() |
