Value on original blue plate 1976 912E
A rare find????
The proverbial original one lady owner California Blue plate car with sunroof and just under 200k miles, last registered and presumably driven in 2004. Stored outside and not started since. Average, jams out repaint, in original off white with excellent tan interior and dash, good fuchs. What is a fair offer/price for this possible can of worms, I mean gem?

Whats a realistic 912E bring these days? $5-12K? Repaint, high mileage examples, likely less. I like John's answer above.
you looking to sell it for her or buy it from her?

I like John's number as well, but I think however it will be around $ 3.500- less the DMV fees for unpaid reg these last 4 years.
assuming I can hear it at least run.. although rebuilt exchange core VW engines can be had for $ 1.700- it is not in the same league as 911, 912 non E and 356 engine rebuild cost. The car has a nice set of Fuchs, they have to be worth $ 700- and I think it would look nice on the set of cookie cutters I have lying around. So for a total investment of under $ 5k I get a presentable Porsche as a daily driver......with a fresh engine, if needed, and cookie cutters...........sunroof, blue plate and only one lady owner, shucks I just talked myself into it........ thanks guys for your valuable insight, it helps to have a great sounding board when commiting little follies, from her indoors, the ball and chain, the trouble and strife, I only get what do you need another junk car for??? regards, JP I'll post a couple of pictures of the car, once the deed is done......

I think getting into a car like that for $3500 is pretty right. I sold mine last fall in the low end of the range ferrariguy posted. It was a bit rough and had some needs.
And now I plant the seed... Raby Massive Type IV. That's all. ![]()

Proud E owner
The interesting reality is....the '76 912E is worth as much, or more, the any 1976 911S.
They have a loyal following, & it would be unwise to sell one randomly with a false sense of their value as being 'low'. Put is up on the 912 Registry site or on thesamba....but DON'T, just give it away.... Mine is a 225,000+ mile "daily Driver".....Superior street/city car to my '75 Targa with fresh 3.2. ![]()

FWIW (2) 912Es listed in our area. One "runs, has sunroof, but needs some TLC" is being listed for $6k. Another with high miles (almost 200k) but described as running excellent (with a rebuild at 156k) is listed for $7999.
I can't get the "TLC" guy to e-mail me back (and he didn't list a phone number in his ad) but might swing by Fort Wayne to see the $7999 car around the 4th weekend.

wheres the love ?
Lots of dissing of the E here, I'm curious have all of you who don't like the car actually driven one ?
As much as I love the 911, a properly set up 912E can be really enjoyable, true its does not have heart stopping performance, but it can be quick enough and its lightness, balance and nimble handling really make it a very fun car. Mine has 58K original miles with the FI intact and the stebro system on and the 15x6 Fuchs which thus far makes the car the equal of all the stock mid year cars I have driven, the E has never ever let me down, and service / maintenance has been very little $ OTOH For type IV performance check out what Jake Raby is doing with the 912E at Aircooledtechnology.com

Who's dissing the "E"?
One guy said he'd offer a grand for it, is that a "diss"? With the description of that car it might not have been too far off - 200K miles, unknown service history, not started for 6 years, repaint... ![]() It's not a 911, but if you can get past that (I can) it's pretty cool. Love the green E posted above, that car is very cool. Cheers d.

Kermit is beautiful, though with that fender gap he looks like he's ready for some rally-x...

I love white in a narrow body with all that bright work. Add that red interior and I'm drooling.

What I think is that I still kick myself for not buying your formally Gulf Blue 74 when it was up for sale last year !
The white one looks nice inside but with some rust issues, look at the pics around the trunk lip, I would probably pass on it. There was a really nice Ice green metallic one on CL and the 912bbs recently for about the same money with history, around the same miles IIRC and for a bit more there is a brown one stefan chmara automobiles, there are a couple of others listed on there too.
